The Development of the X-15 Rocket Plane - 1962 NASA Documentary "Research Project X-15" 27.43 min. | 4.877551 avaliação | 16578 exibições NASA documentary about the developement and early flights of the X-15 rocket plane. From en.wikipedia.org "The North American X-15 rocket-powered aircraft/spaceplane was part of the X-series of experimental aircraft, initiated with the Bell X-1, that were made for the USAAF/USAF, NACA/NASA, and the USN. The X-15 set speed and altitude records in the early 1960s, reaching the edge of outer space and returning with valuable data used in aircraft and spacecraft design. As of 2011, it holds the official world record for the fastest speed ever reached by a manned rocket-powered aircraft. During the X-15 program, 13 of the flights (by eight pilots) met the USAF spaceflight criteria by exceeding the altitude of 50 miles (80.5 km, 264000 ft), thus qualifying the pilots for astronaut status. The USAF pilots qualified for USAF astronaut wings, while the civilian pilots were later awarded NASA astronaut wings. Of all the X-15 missions, two flights (by the same pilot) qualified as space flights per the international (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) definition of a spaceflight by exceeding 100 kilometres (62.1 mi, 328084 ft) in altitude." View from the Live Cockpit Camera with Supersonic Driver - Wing Commander Andy Green, OBE, on Black Rock Desert - Nevada, USA. Time - 10:05:00 - Wednesday 15th October 1997 (Local Time). This was the second of 2 supersonic runs (Runs 65 and 66) that together set the World Land Speed Record of 763mph or 1228km/h that still holds today more than 12 years later, and was indeed the FIRST record at supersonic speed! The Thrust SSC Car is driven by twin Rolls-Royce Spey Engines with 11000hp and 50000lbs thrust! They provide the power to achieve 0 to 600mph in just 16 seconds. Run 66 achieved a peak speed of 771mph - Mach 1.02 - and an average speed of 766.609mph over the measured mile! The distance covered during this final run was 14 miles. In this now historic archive video you'll see the large round "Mach" Speed Meter on the left side of the various dials - as the car pushes through the 700mph barrier you'll see the Mach Speed Hand rapidly move across the dial to an indicated peak supersonic Mach Speed of an estimated Mach 1.02 - with sonic booms being experienced across the desert flats. The main speedometer is just to the right of the Mach Gauge, and during the run you'll see the needle move from the top position around the gauge to the max 771 mph! Wow! You can see all the in-depth project details and various news reports of the Thrust SSC Car and other historic archive materials on the outstanding .... + Informações |

First-Person Project: The Uprising - Part 2 9.85 min. | 4.8415647 avaliação | 169676 exibições "A law-disobeying citizen arriving at City 17 finds himself joining the infamous Resistance group, which is a team of citizens fighting against the Combine, who are in control over the city. " In this episode, our protagonist escapes from the Combine's clutches within a nearby base. Later, he finally arrives at White Forest, and meets one of the Resistance leaders, Ranger. Ranger introduces the protagonist to the rebels at the base and informs him about a rocket the Resistance are building that will destroy the Combine super portal. After our hero impresses the leader from a small training course, Ranger gives our hero the nickname, Andy. Ranger explains to Andy about that being his father's name, and the night his parents were murdered by an unexplained assassin. Shortly afterwards, the Combine break into White Forest, trying to put an end to the rocket, and most importantly, the Resistance members within the base. Andy and Ranger get separated by a large steel door that closed during the lock-down sequence of the base, and the rest of part 2 is Andy trying to regroup with Ranger. The rocket will launch within a moment's notice, and it's up to Andy and the rest of the Resistance to stop the Combine at all costs. -------------------- Enjoy the second part of the mini first-person action series. Project Orion: "To Mars by A-Bomb" RARE Footage 3.60 min. | 4.862069 avaliação | 7322 exibições Project Orion was the first engineering design study of a spacecraft powered by nuclear pulse propulsion, an idea proposed first by Stanis?aw Ulam during 1947. The project, initiated in 1958, envisioned the explosion of atomic bombs behind the craft and was led by Ted Taylor at General Atomics and physicist Freeman Dyson, who at Taylor's request took a year away from the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton to work on the project. By using energetic nuclear power, the Orion concept offered high thrust and high specific impulse (10 to 1000 km/s[1]) at the same time; the optimum combination for spacecraft propulsion. As a qualitative comparison, traditional chemical rockets (the Moon-class Saturn V or the Space Shuttle being prime examples) provide (rather) high thrust, but low specific impulse, whereas ion engines do the opposite. Orion would have offered performance greater than the most advanced conventional or nuclear rocket engines now being studied. Cheap interplanetary travel was the goal of the Orion Project. Its supporters felt that it had potential for space travel, but it lost political approval over concerns with fallout from its propulsion.. + Informações |

Apollo 11 40th Anniversary Model Rocket Launch 3.57 min. | 4.8461537 avaliação | 14433 exibições This was our tribute to the historic mission of Apollo 11 back in 1969. This was humankinds first venture to put humans on another world. The launch took place in Sandringham, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia on September 20 2009, we had originally planned for a weekend in July, close to the actual anniversary date, but weather did not cooperate.sound familiar? The rocket is a 1:100 scale Estes model using a D12-3 engine. I scratch built a mobile launch platform and launch umbilical tower to add some realism. In addition, we played the original countdown audio synchronised with the T-0 ignition. The second launch was delayed due to a last moment gust of wind, but we kept going after adjusting the tower and rocket. We had two launches that day and on the second launch a spider kept on crawling onto the rocket, we made sure he was off and out of blast range when we finally launched. Update: I download the ppt version of the LUT paper model (jleslie48.com enlarged to match the 1:100 scale of the Estes Saturn V and printed out and glued over a heavy cardboard tower. The base is chipboard. I modified the rocket to have the launch rod run internally, looks much better.. + Informações |

How To make A Match Rocket 2.05 min. | 4.746392 avaliação | 2110911 exibições This video is a remake on my previous match rocket video because I felt that it was not as good as it could be. This design is not that different from my previous design, the only difference is that I completely plugged up one end and made the hole on the other end a lot smaller, but with these improvments I would say that it is about 10 times more powerful. Warning: It dose produce a lot of smoke, so I highly suggest that you do it outside or in a well ventilated area.. + Informações |
