This is a partial break down of the timeline in FinalCut Pro and the level of detail it can do.. There are two parts to this video - the FCP timeline layer control overlays and then the video in reverse. I'll explain that in a tick.. Filmed Saturday July 29th 2006 on a miniDV handy cam, edited in small chunks of motivation and spare time over the past 4.5 years. . I was told a long time ago that finalcut pro is a basic non linear editor, that to do anything complex on it would be like producing a newspaper using only microsoft word. This video was a personal challenge to me, and to prove to others that, while there are other supporting apps to do these effects, FCP is well and truly capable of doing them itself, not necessarily the best or quickest way but shows that it is capable of being done. Pretty much all of this video was constructed within the standard installation of FinalCut Pro, no third party plugins were used. At the time, in Australia, there werent many wide screen tvs in domestic use, and there was no digital or widescreen broadcasting happening. Boof happened to have a widescreen telly, so i thought id begin editing this video for DVD use on his hardware. As it turns out, the rest of the world caught up. I'm glad i set it up in 16:9 and not in pan and scan as I initially contemplated doing. I'm also wishing i had a better camera at the time, but i've had to work with what i'd filmed that afternoon.
