If you're a fan of vintage Muppets then you're in for a treat. Here they are! Jim Henson's original Muppets in their first TV series - SAM AND FRIENDS (1955-1961)! This vintage kinescope is titled "Powder Burn" (aka "Punsmoke"). It was written by Jim Henson himself. Jim performed all of the voices in these original sketches, and would thus have to pre-record the soundtracks for the episodes. The actual puppeteering would be performed by Jim Henson, Jane Nebel and and (occasionally) Bob Payne. This episode stars (in order of appearance): Kermit as Chester Harry the Hipster as Doggie Chicken Liver as Marshall Dilly Professor Madcliffe as Thadeus Quentin Ovaltone and Yorick as Black Bart. This is a purely qualitative look at the burn rate of different rifle and pistol powders. The little piles of the different powders are connected by a "fuse" of Hodgdon Varget (for safety). Left to right, the piles are: Alliane Power Pistol, Alliant Blue Dot, Winchester 296, Hodgdon H110, Hodgdon Clays, Hodgdon H414, and Hodgdon BLC-2. This was conducted in a safe manner outdoors with no flamables nearby and is legal in my state. This burn demonstration might be mildly interesting to those who reload the 5.7x28mm cartridge, and particularly those handloaders who use Accurate Powders which, I would imagine is most of us since Accurate was one of the only manufacturers listing 5.7 load data for quite some time. Notice how the burn rate and resultant residue of the factory SS197SR mystery powder is similar to Accurate No.5; maybe even a bit faster. The Accurate No.7 looks like it might be better suited to longer barreled firearms with it's noticeably slower burn time. Torching propellant in an open air environment does not necessarily duplicate the comparative burn characteristics of a cartridge under the extreme heat and pressure during actual cartridge firing but it's sort of cool to observe the deflagration process on my technical research facility test surface, ie - old table saw bed.. + Informações
