El grupo español, madrileño para más señas, de los Pop Tops se formó en 1967. Seis de ellos eran españoles y el cantante, Phil Trim, de Trinidad y Tobago de raza negra (asi se puede entender mejor el motivo de la letra). Este tema lo lanzaron en 1968 y fue todo un éxito en España y algunos países de Europa. Como se puede apreciar, su música toma prestado el Canon de Pachelbel; El resultado es de lo más digno y bello. Los Pop-Tops fue un grupo musical español formado en 1967 en Madrid, España con los siguientes componentes: José Lipiani, Alberto Vega, Ignacio Pérez, Julián Luis Angulo, Enrique Gómez, Ray Gómez y el cantante Phil Trim. Theophilus Philip Phil Trim nació el 5 de enero de 1940 en Trinidad y Tobago. Los Pop-Tops tenían un sonido mezcla de música clásica de estilo barroco con una voz de tipo soul, con influencias de Procol Harum. Su productor era Alain Milhaud. Su primera canción con éxito internacional fue "Oh Lord, Why Lord" en 1968. Fue la primera canción pop que usó el Canon de Pachelbel. La cara B del single contenía la canción "La Voz del Hombre Caido" (en inglés "The Voice Of The Dying Man"), basada en una composición de Bach. Oh Lord Why Lord llegó a aparecer en las listas de éxitos de Estados Unidos y Holanda. Su mayor éxito fue Mamy Blue (escrita y compuesta por el francés Hubert Giraud), de 1971, que fue un gran éxito en toda Europa y también en Estados Unidos.
