Die Dokumentation "Polaroid - magische Momente" berichtet von der Bedeutung der Polaroidtechnik für die Fotografie. Und gleichzeitig vom Symbol einer Popkulturbewegung, das so zeitgeistig war, wie danach vielleicht nur noch Swatch-Uhr, Walkman und iPhone. Und sie erzählt die Geschichte der Polaroidkunst, mit der auch prominente Künstler wie Ansel Adams, Andy Warhol und Robert Mapplethorpe experimentiert haben und der auch noch heute gefrönt wird. Nur die Polaroidkamera erlaubte es einem Fotografen, sofort nach der Aufnahme ein Papierbild in der Hand zu halten - ohne Gang ins Fotogeschäft. Niemand, der es nicht sollte, bekam die Fotos zu Gesicht. Polaroid war aber nicht nur diskret, es war auch Symbol für Fortschritt und Zeitgeist, und es war ein Muss für alle, die "hip" sein wollten. Mit Polaroid zu fotografieren war allerdings weder ein billiges Vergnügen, noch waren die Ergebnisse immer technisch brillant. Trotzdem war die Lust am Sofortbild verbreitet. Insider schätzen, dass in einem halben Jahrhundert fast eine Milliarde Polaroidkameras verkauft wurden. Die Sofortbildtechnik, Ende der 40er Jahre vom Amerikaner Edwin Land entwickelt, revolutionierte die Fotografie.
