The tank was only a 55 gallon but the combination of feeding him steamed broccoli and over filtering the tank (3 Eheims) caused him to grow and grow! ******** Q: How does how much you filter influence size? A: The cleaner the water the bigger they grow. The growth hormones sense that the fish is in open water and growth begins. Once the water is dirty, the growth hormones shut down. Its a survival process that happens when a fish strays off the main body of water or river. This also happens when there is a drought and the river levels are low. FYI: The #1? cause of death for Plecos is starvation. People think that Plecos can survive only on the glass algae. This is FALSE.. + Informações

I have this Pleco Plecostomus Sucker Fish. I took it out of the tank so I could clean the tank. I put in in a bowl on our kitchen counter. At 12pm we couldn't find the fish. Found it 4 hours later at 4pm in the garbage disposal still alive. Can anyone explain how this fish can live out of the water for 4 hours and survive? Here is time schedule. 11:30am - remove fish from tank. Put fish in bowl on kitchen counter. 11:40am - leave house 12:00pm - wife comes home & fish is not in bowl. 4:00pm - I come home to look for fish. 4:05pm - I find fish (alive) in garbage disposal Next day - Fish still alive and seems to be doing well. Here, you can see what many people say they have never witnessed...a pleco eating....and also during the day. Also, I know I will need to get a larger tank eventually, and my Violet Goby has lived for many months and grown much since Ive purchased him. I do have brackish waiting if he needs it- but as of now, I think moving him would do more harm. Hypostomus plecostomus is the scientific name for a type of freshwater tropical Central and South American fish belonging to the family Loricariidae. They are large algae eaters, and to differentiate them from small algae eaters, they are often referred to as plecostomus, often abbreviated as plecos or plecs. They are extremely popular in aquaria for their ability to clean tanks by eating algae growth. I got this little guy the end of September, but I'm just getting around to posting video. I have NO idea what species. It says I purchased him, but the truth is the guy at the pet store didn't charge me for him. He is very brave, out in the daytime, I'm going to teach him (or her) to eat from my fingers. My yellow belly slider turtle tank. Excuse the backround noise :) Turtles are Sharon and Ozzy. Ozzy follows my finger cuz hes such a brat and he thinks I am always going to feed him. Before you get turtles, please realize they cost about $60 per month to maintain. $10 per week for live crickets (they smell like poo really icky, but a favourite food for hatchling turtles who are too fussy to eat pellets or live fish), cricket feed and hydrating gel (calcium enriched), filter cartridges, water softener... plus weekly upkeep like wiping out slime and algae. I have close to $400 invested in the tank. And the turtles themselves cost $10 from a curio shop in Florida... And the little squirts live for 40 years... and will need a larger tank... seriously longer than a dog :) But theyre cute arnt they? I vacillate between giving them away and keeping them depending on if its tank cleaning day or not. We watch turtles instead of tv :) When I go away I have to have a turtle sitter turn their lights on and off... never ends... :). + Informações
