Here's the video pitchblende put together for the song Shepherdess which was on our first album, Kill Atom Smasher. It mostly is footage from our R st. & Anacostia practice spaces but also some weird art school film projects. All of the footage is Super 8. I can't remember who shot the footage in the spaces or who edited it. But, I think it's pretty good. I think it compares just fine with a lot of the videos coming out in the early 90's. Never seen this before? That's probably because we gave it to our label Cargo right after we made it and it sat on a shelf untouched for years apparently. I just finished putting this video together (4/16/11). The footage is from a couple of live shows pitchblende played in Chicago in 1993. The footage was made into a music video at that time but when it was presented to us we didn't like it. It may've been done by someone affiliated with our label Fist Puppet/Cargo Records. Sorry whoever did the video!!! But, I kept the VHS all these years and I decided I would steal that footage and make my own video from it. There is only a very limited amount of stuff I was working with so it was really difficult to keep it feeling fresh and interesting. I added some other Super 8 footage that I recently had transferred to digital which was from the same period (late 80s to early 90s) of some single frame experiments and I supplemented that with a picture of our mascot "Lix" zooming in and out of the frame. It's a little corny but good enough to post. I took all the video footage and made it more contrasty and desaturated it completely. I think it's ok. Let me know what you think. Flax is a song on our first record called Kill Atom Smasher that was released in 1992. It was a big crowd favorite at the time and we often finished our set with it. Important info from Patrick: The in-store was Reckless Records in Chicago, the first of three shows we did in one day (06/19/93 the other venue was either Thurston's or Isabel's). A little video about finding a piece of Pitchblende (Uraninite) in Black Forest. In fact, this mineral could be anything like UO2, UO3, U3O8. The mainly radioactive element in pitchblende ist U-238, and Ra-226 in traces. Its mainly an alpha emitter, but the decay products also produce beta and gamma rays (Ra-226, Pb-210), so my geiger counter is ticking nicely.. + Informações

This is a homemade soap-box geiger-mueller, powered from two old Li-Ion rechargeables (were not suitable for heavy load after six years, huh). The output voltage is stabilized to 400 volts with two special neon glow lamps. Output pulses are amplified to audible ticks and LED diode blinks... Pitchblende is an uranium-rich uraninite mineral from Jáchymov/Czechoslovakia (Joachimsthal) with a composition that is largely oxides of uranium (UO2, UO3). It has a natural radioactivity due to uranium and its decay products (radium, radon ...). By a simple Geiger Mueller counter the radioactivity is demonstrated by optical and acoustic signals. Here's another crazy video I just put together (04/17/11). All the footage was from super 8 reels that I had from the period that I just had digitally transferred (late 80s to early 90s). A lot of the footage is from our 1993 tour with another Washington DC band called Edsel. The rope swing stuff is from Lacrosse Wisconsin. Our friend Andy Freeburg was a big fan of ours and we made the effort have pitchblende play in his city. Not everybody is in the footage but, I did notice Geoff Sanoff, Steve Raskin, Scott DeSimon, Darren Walters (our roadie for the tour), Chris Norborg, and John E. Dugan. The footage from Devil's Tower is of Darren and I. A lot of this stuff is pretty corny but what the hell, it's been a million years and everyone is married with children at this point. I do have to apologize to George Fox for including the Arlington porch spaz-out footage. Sorry, but it had to happen! Also, there are a few Corcoran nuggets including my friend Lisa Wallace reflected in mylar and some weird animation I did. Also, also is a few seconds of Darren getting pierced in Atlanta. I kept it tasteful for the most part. I also have footage of Scott & Justin getting pierced but that best stays in the vault as they would totally kill me if I posted it. The song Nine Volt is the first song on our pretty crappy sounding 2nd album called Au Jus, released by Cargo Records. I sweetened the EQ a little bit from the CD release as it sounded pretty muddy.
