"Madrugada" ("Dawn") was the Portuguese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1975, performed in Portuguese by Duarte Mendes. The song is a moderately up-tempo number, describing the joy felt in Portugal at the success of the Carnation Revolution of the year before, in which Mendes participated - which had been initiated by the playing of Portugal's previous Contest entry on the radio. Mendes describes the overthrow of the Estado Novo regime as being like a "rebirth" and a "dawn" for his country, and sings that "there can't be enough songs like this". The song was performed sixteenth on the night, following Finland's Pihasoittajat with "Old Man Fiddle" and preceding Spain's Sergio y Estíbaliz with "Tú volverás". Downcounting my top 15 favourites of Eurovision Song Contest 1975 :) Wonderful year! Never though I would like the songs in this year so much, but I do! Many of them should be on the same "place" though, because I like many of them just as much. Like Italy and Switzerland, and Sweden and Netherlands, and Norway and Finland. It is just few things there which helped me to pick the better ones. My winner this year was my favourite from the moment she opened her mouth though, I ADORE my number one here! Matti Hyvönen ja "Hiljainen laulu" vuodelta 1967, alunperin Domenico Modugnon "Stassera pago io." Matti Hyvösen kotisivut: www.mattioskarihyvonen.com Rovaniemellä vuonna 1948 syntynyt Matti Hyvönen voitti juhannuksena vuonna 1961 kotikaupungissaan järjestetyn Suomen Robertino-laulukilpailun. Kilpailun tarkoituksena oli löytää sopiva, laulutaitoinen poika näyttelemään Suomi-Filmin valmisteilla olevassa elokuvassa Kertokaa se hänelle nuorta Mauno Katajaa. Elokuvan käsikirjoituksen olivat laatineen Olavi Karu ja Lauri Jauhiainen ja sen ohjaajaksi oli valittu Åke Lindman. Elokuva pohjautui löyhästi sen ajan laulajasuosikin, tenori Mauno Kuusiston elämään. Kuusisto itse näytteli elokuvassa sitten "itseään", Mauno Katajaa aikuisena. Matti Hyvönen muistelee: - Robertino-laulukilpailu järjestettiin juhannuksena 1961 Rovaniemen Ounasvaaralla. Paikka toimi silloin hiihtostadionina. Sinä päivänä oli ensin kaunis juhannussää kun kilpailu alkoi. Kohta aurinko meni kuitenkin pilveen ja alkoi sataa. Kun voittaja julkistettiin, oli jo rankkasade. Yleisöä oli paikalla paljon ja meitä poikia oli jotain toistakymmentä, heidän joukossaan Jamppa Tuominen Oulusta. Mua sitten onnisti ja siitä tämä homma lähti omalta kohdaltani rakentumaan. - Saman tien jäin sinne Helsinkiin ja elokuva tehtiin varsin nopeaan tahtiin Helsingin lähistöllä ja Espoossa.
