This is Phil Coulter's version of the beautiful Scottish tune 'Highland Cathedral. The picture at 2:27 is of pipers from the Pipes & Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, RSDG, (my uncle's Regiment, WO2 D. Bennett), taken at the Edinbrugh Tattoo. Highland Cathedral is a popular bagpipe tune written by German musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb in a Scottish style. It has been proposed as the Scottish national anthem to replace unofficial anthems Scotland the Brave and/or Flower of Scotland. It is considered a Scottish equivalent of the English hymn, "Abide with Me", for national sporting events and as a hymn on the eve of battle. This in my mind is one of the BEST instrumental versions of Carrickfergus I've ever heard. What's even more special about THIS particular version is he dueted with a young 19 year old lady called Claire Gallagher. Claire was blinded in the Omagh bomb atrocity back in August 1998. She has also played the piano for former US president Bill Clinton and back in 2004 she recieved a BA honours degree in music at Queen's University, Belfast. Just goes to show that though blinded she may be, she didn't give up and persued her love of music!. + Informações

This is a lovely haunting piece and features Henry McCullough on Guitar in accompaniment to the piano. It's taken from a song originally written by one of Ireland's great pipers, Finbar Furey (at the age of 16!!). It's a very atmospheric piece, and at times, almost "Rock" in nature. First of many taken off Phil's 'Live Experience DVD'. This was a concert performed in Limerick on the 20th August 1996. Nothing needs to be said about the piece; as I'm sure your all familiar with the history of it. Another song by 'Ireland's Ambassador To Music' about a tragic moment in his life... Phil wrote his moving tribute to his first son, who was born (in the early 80's) with Downs Syndrome and died at the tender age of four years old. The song pleads for tolerance and understanding of his son and the syndrome. Not long after writing it he played it to the great Luke Kelly who because of the personal essence of the song felt that the song should not be sung except for special occasions, and not on every performance. As I said it was written by Irish poet Thomas Moore. It tells of a young man's presumable response to his beloved's question of whether he loves her and if he will leave her.
