Murder by Decree (1979) is an interesting mix of fact and fiction. Fact : It deals with the Whitechapel murders of 1888 perpetrated by the anonymous Jack the Ripper. Fiction : It stirs Sir Arthur Conan Doyle`s creation Sherlock Holmes into the mix. This makes for a very entertaining story and is quite believable along with the other hundred or so other conspiracy theories that exist about the Ripper murders. Christopher Plummer and James Mason make a worthy Holmes and Watson and are aided by a splendid supporting cast. The director is Bob Clark and the atmospheric music score is provided by Paul Zaza and Carl Zittrer.
