Texas Tornado CD Johnny Winter is magnific. Last Sunday, May 23 (2010) the Johnny Winter's Band did a wonderful show at Teatro Guaira in Curitiba, Brazil. The theater has a great acoustic which was perfect for a show like the blues of Johnny Winter. The distorted guitar and dissonant notes sounded like metal birds flying through the melodic space in full harmony. The drums and bass held incredible dialogues between the two guitars that packed all the souls present, incorporated or not, in a magic dance of sounds and emotions. Johnny Winter is a rock. ?Parchman Farm Blues" (B. White) Recorded: Chicago, March 7, 1940 Bukka White (vcl) (g), Washboard Sam (w) Bukka White (November 12, 1909 -- February 26, 1977) was a delta blues guitarist and singer. "Bukka" was not a nickname, but a misspelling of White's Christian name by his second (1937) record label, (Vocalion). Born Booker T. Washington White near Houston, Mississippi, he gave his cousin BB King, a Stella guitar, King's first guitar. White himself is remembered as a player of National Steel guitars. He also played, but was less adept at, the piano. White started his career playing the fiddle at square dances. He claims to have met Charlie Patton early on, although some doubt has been cast upon this; regardless, Patton was a large influence on White. White typically played slide guitar, in an open tuning. He was one of the few, along with Skip James, to use a crossnote tuning in E minor, which he may have learned, as James did, from Henry Stuckey. He first recorded for the Victor Records label in 1930. His recordings for Victor, like those of many other bluesmen, fluctuated between country blues and gospel numbers. His gospel songs were done in the style of Blind Willie Johnson, with a female singer accentuating the last phrase of each line. Nine years later, while serving time, he recorded for folklorist John Lomax. The few songs he recorded around this time became his most well-known: "Shake 'Em On Down," and "Po' Boy." Parchman Farm Blues or When Can I Change My Clothes Bukka White Parchman Farm is Mississippi's oldest prison and is formally known as the Mississippi State Penitentiary. Parchman Farm was a plantation style farm/prison. Bukka White recorded a few songs before his time spent on the farm. He also recorded two songs while in prison for Alan Lomax and The Library of Congress. After serving his two years he went to record 12 more songs. He was another blues artist that was "rediscovered" in the sixties. This recording from his later work in the sixties.. + Informações

Runco's Weekly Music Breaks its First New Artist: (Special Edition) So this week, the last week of blues month, is a very special week for Runco's Weekly Music - because I am proudly breaking a new artist for the first time: country blues musician, Mick Martin. The first time I heard Mick Martin's music, to say that I was very impressed, would be a great understatement. I was sitting in a room with special wood working to unlock the minute details of sound; it was a quiet room, nobody was speaking, and the music was playing loudly through high quality recording speakers... the song was noticeably recorded on quality microphones, and mastered by an attentive engineer using all the right software. It was the furthest thing from the way the original blues masters were typically heard -- in dirty, loud shacks, while men gambled, drank, and often fought over attending females. But it was special in its own regard, because I could hear 'everything' What I heard was an extension of the blues masters -- a unique and creative blend of the styles that were developed and refined decades ago in the delta and piedmont regions - a sound that still demonstrates its century-old African roots, and a sound that I sincerely hope never dies.
