Reportagem sobre acidente ocorrido na plataforma marítima de extração de petróleo "P-36" da Petrobrás, ocorrido em março de 2001. A P-36 foi a maior plataforma de produção de petróleo no mundo antes de seu afundamento em Março de 2001. A plataforma era da estatal brasileira Petrobras e custou 350 milhões de dólares. Sua construção teve início na Itália em 1995 com um casco semi-submerso (com colunas estabilizadoras) e terminou no Canadá em 2000. A P-36 era operada pela Petrobras no campo de Roncador, Bacia de Campos, distante 130 km da costa do estado do Rio de Janeiro, produzindo 84.000 barris de petróleo por dia. No madrugada do dia 15 de março de 2001 ocorreram duas explosões em uma das colunas da plataforma, a primeira às 0h22m ea segunda às 0h39m. Segundo a Petrobras, 175 pessoas estavam no local no momento do acidente das quais 11 morreram, todas integrantes da equipe de emergência da plataforma. Depois das explosões, a plataforma tombou em 16 graus, devido ao bombeio de água do mar para o seu interior, o suficiente para permitir alagamento que levou ao seu afundamento. Times de resgate tentaram salvar a plataforma durante o fim de semana seguinte, injetando nitrogênio e ar comprimido nos tanques para tentar remover a água acumulada mas abandonaram as tentativas devido ao tempo ruim. A plataforma afundou no dia 20 de março, em uma profundidade de 1200 metros e com estimadas 1500 toneladas de óleo ainda a bordo.
