My Friend and I made this music video as a joke for a video production assignment. I just wanted to play around with all the different things you can do in Final Cut Express, its pretty amazing the stuff you can do with it (I only really scratched the surface). The song is "Love Underground" by Rustic Overtones from their 2001 album "Viva Nueva." All acting was done by Ben Tweed, and I did the filming/editing. Hope you enjoy! 2 of 5 Low quality, raw footage of 'Rustic Overtones' show featuring Dave Gutter. Second night of a sold out, two night show. First performance over five years since the break-up. Recorded live at Asylum nightclub in Portland, Maine on July 29,2007. Rustic Overtones started out in the early 1990s as a three-piece cover band known as Aces Wild with Dave Gutter, Jon Roods, and then-drummer and close friend Matthew Esty, playing small bars. This lineup produced the very rare "Smile" album. The Rustic Overtones gained popularity during the mid to late 1990s in the Portland, Maine music scene, although they had many self-financed tours throughout the country, mostly the northeastern states. After the release of their 1998 album Rooms by the Hour, major record label Arista signed the band spurred on by then president Clive Davis. Arista hired legendary producer Tony Visconti to produce what became the 2001 release, Viva Nueva!. However, after disagreements with the label, and a shakeup at Arista that saw their primary suppoter, Clive Davis, depart, the record deal fell through. They were shortly afterwards picked up by Tommy Boy, and released Viva Nueva! in 2001. However, Tommy Boy dissolved shortly after the release of the album, once again leaving the Overtones without a record label. The disappointment of two major record deals falling through proved too much for the band members, and they went their separate ways in 2002. 4/12/12 Hudson River Music Hall, Hudson Falls, NY for WGFR (SUNY Adirondack's Radio Station) "Superjam." The tail end of 2001's "Combustible, plus a brand new song, the title track to their 5/12 Concept EP "Let's Start a Cult." (begins at 4:25 in) This was filmed at 1030 pm, the bass player and guitarist were due onstage in Albany (60 miles south of here) later tonight with their other band - Paranoid Social Club. I recently watched an interview wherein one of the band members was talking about something singer Dave Gutter could do vocally that made his performances unique ... I'm fairly confident I captured what he was referring to during this video.
