It featured the London Symphony Orchestra on two tracks, while noted guests David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Stills, and James Taylor contributed vocals. It topped the Billboard 200 album chart for two weeks, and spawned two hit singles, "Old Man", which peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Heart of Gold", which peaked at #1. It was the best-selling album of 1972. After Young left Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, he recruited a group of country session musicians (whom he christened The Stray Gators) and recorded a country rock record in Harvest. The record was a massive hit, producing a US number one single in "Heart of Gold". Other songs returned to some usual Young themes: "Alabama" was "an unblushing rehash of 'Southern Man'"; and "The Needle and the Damage Done" was a lament for great artists who had died of heroin addiction. Killing Floor - Out Of Uranus - from Out Of Uranus (1970) c. Bill Thorndycraft UK blues band from South London. Formed during the British "blues boom" of 1968. The original band featured singer and harp player Bill Thorndycraft, bass player Stuart (Mac) McDonald, drummer Bazz Smith and pianist Lou Martin, and was an important part of the early blues rock movement. Contemporaries included Free, Black Cat Bones, Savoy Brown, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The band worked hard on the English club and college scene including dates at London's Marquee club with The Nice and Yes, as well as appearing on all the rock radio and TV shows of the time - for example the original Johnny Walker and John Peel Shows and Alexis Korner's blues show. Killing Floor also backed Texas bluesman Freddie King on two UK tours, meeting up with Howlin' Wolf, Arthur Crudup and Otis Spann along the way, and toured extensively in Europe, appearing at the Hamburg Easter Rock Festival (pictured) in 1970. Two albums were released, "Killing Floor" in 1969 and "Out of Uranus" in 1971.
