Four blokes dressed in western style Victorian frock coats complete with bootlace ties appeared in the album charts in 1990. The band took their music far more seriously and armed with a repertoire from the songbook of artists having long proceeded them like The Louvin Brothers, The Delmore Brothers, Charlie Rich and their own self penned works. The Notting Hillbillies found themselves reaching the No.2 position of the UK album charts during March of that year. And it wasn't all to do with the fact that Mark Knopfler was in the band ..... well, maybe it did a little bit! For many at the time the joy was in witnessing four gleaming 'National' guitars in the line-up and dragging die-hard blues purists out of their smokey dungeons.
