This is underwater ice fishing video of a school of sunfish around an ice jig. Suddenly, a northern pike comes in from behind causing the school to wisely scatter. The hungry pike turns it's attention to our shiner and viciously strikes the bait. Somehow the pike misses the shiner but trips the tip-up causing the shiner to sink to the bottom. My northern pike decided to eat my largemouth bass. Caught it all on video. Yes, he finished up the bass. He was able to get it all down. There are also other local fishes such as walleyes, small mouth basses, perches, northerns, muskies, etc. The northern was in the tank with the bass for couple of months before the incident. I was sitting at the computer when I heard "the chase" and by that time, it was too late. I currently feed him medium sized suckers and feeder goldfishes. Gone Fishing with Silkman Northern Pike Fishing in Ely MN My name is Robert Silkey and here is my Big Fish Story. This big fish story is about the great Northern Pike and landing them without a net. That's right Northern Pike Fishing without a net! The Silkey family has been going to Ely MN for 35 years and strictly fish for Big Northern Pike. The Silkey family which now also includes the Helton family camp outside of Ely MN in the Superior National Forest in an area called the BWCA for 9 straight days each September. Many years ago while fishing in Ely MN I witnessed a fishing guide grab a big Northern Pike out of the water bare handed. If you have ever seen a Northern Pike or have ever gone fishing for them you can understand my amazement and my immediate thoughts of this fishing guide being crazy. However since that day we have adopted that same approach when landing a Northern Pike and have established a pact between those that attend our annual fishing trip in Ely MN. So when we are fishing for Big Pike there are no landing nets allowed in the boat. We believe that this concept pits man against Water Wolf, the common nick name for the Northern Pike. In telling those about this phenomenon of bare handing these fish, especially when they see my 30 pound, 49 1/2" Big Northern Pike on my wall, they simply do not believe we grab these big Northern Pike out of the water without a landing net given the size of their teeth. So we made our way out to the little town of Baraga, MI. We got out to the ice and soon learned there was a pike fishing tournament going on, we missed the signup and stuff but we were fine with that, whatever right. That is when we started smacking fish on the tip-ups one after the other pretty steady all day long. What a great time, we kept 8 or 9 fish none under 28inches, and let a bunch go. The three honarable mentioned fish where matt's 36in, 11lber. Andy's 40in, 22lber. And my 43in, 21lber. James also caught a 38in, 15lber a couple weeks before. Well curiousity got the best of me and we drove by the tourney anyways where i asked a guy what the big fish was...18lbs!!! Second was 15. So we took the two big twin pikes into the bar and it was nothing but applause and pictures. Then a taxidermist and local fishing guide came up to us and was amazed we stomped his fish. After he tried to fish the location out of us he offered to mount all three fish for 7 dollars an inch, instead of 10...We couldnt resist...now the 3 week wait begins til me, andy, and james get our big beautiful fish back.. + Informações
