Noam Chomsky on Ron Paul's 9/11 Theories: "What He Said Is Completely Uncontroversial" 5.27 min. | 4.935456 avaliação | 169164 exibições DemocracyNow.org - During the most recent Republican presidential debate on Monday, September 12th, Congressman Ron Paul of Texas drew boos and jeers from the crowd and his fellow debaters for his views on the roots of 9/11 attacks. Dr. Paul criticized US foreign policy as the catalyst stating, "we're under great threat because we occupy so many countries... We have to be honest with ourselves. What would we do if another country, say China, did to us what we do to all those countries over there?" For more, Democracy Now! spoke with Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Noam Chomsky. Dr. Chomsky responded to Dr. Paul's comments by reciting the history of antagonism to US policy, concluding: "I think what he said is completely uncontroversial. You can read it in government documents." EXCERPT OF RUSH TRANSCRIPT: AARON MATÉ (DN! Co-Host): Well, Noam, you mentioned the changes in discourse between 10 years ago and today. And actually, this issue of the reasons behind 9/11 came up last night at the Republican presidential debate. Congress Member Ron Paul of Texas drew boos from the crowd and a rebuke from other candidates on the podium when he criticized US foreign policy in discussing the roots of 9/11. REP. RON PAUL: We're under great threat because we occupy so many countries. We're in 130 countries. We have 900 bases around the world. We're going broke. The purpose of al-Qaeda was to attack us, invite us over there, where they can .... + Informações |

[Part 1 of 2] Noam Chomsky on Iran, the 2012 Presidential candidates, Anonymous, and the Internet 13.28 min. | 4.796296 avaliação | 22568 exibições ^^Push CC to get English captions - First question "Will the US or Israel attack Iran?" starts at :32. This is Part 1 of 2. Part 2: www.youtube.com On Feb. 14, 2012, I sat down with Dr. Noam Chomsky at MIT to ask him questions covering an array of topics. Part 1 Questions: ONE - Will the US or Israel attack Iran? TWO - What have been the affects of the US-lead sanctions against Iran? THREE - What makes Iran such a threat? Could Iran really attack the US? FOUR - Is there a 2012 Presidential candidate that you think would make a good world leader? Or is it just politics as usual? FIVE - What is your take on Anonymous' attacks on government and corporate websites and personnel? SIX - Do you think the internet has helped "level the playing field" between the powerful and the powerless? SEVEN - Has the internet, where anyone can be a publisher, as apposed to only a few distributors of information prior to the internet, changed the Propaganda Model that you wrote about in Manufacturing Consent? Part 2 Questions: EIGHT - In Bahrain, today is the one-year anniversary of the brutal suppression of peaceful protestors by both Bahrain and Saudia Arabia. Do you ever see successful democratic uprisings taking place in either country? NINE - You recently said that Turkey should be proud of its civil disobedience. But currently there are more than 400 university students in jail. Does this show the civil disobedience is not working? The government seems to be getting more totalitarian .... + Informações |

Noam Chomsky Attacks American "Libertarians" 5.30 min. | 4.147541 avaliação | 20234 exibições Everyone's favorite subversive intellectual cuts through the right-wing rhetoric. Language can be a minefield of evolving, ambiguous, and confusing definitions. This is why we have the study of semantics. Here are some of my favorite words, terms, and phrases that many of us on the Web are now dealing with: freedom, equality, liberty, liberalism, libertarianism, conservatism, socialism, communism, marxism, anarchism, individualism, mutualism, fascism, classical liberalism, neo-classical liberalism, neoliberalism, neoconservatism, (lots of "isms"), free will, determinism, democracy, workers' rights, labor value, natural law, natural rights, natural freedom, natural aristocracy, meritocracy, capitalism, state capitalism, the state, government, free markets, free trade, laissez-faire, etc, etc. If you're reading this then you are a member of a tiny minority of Americans who're curious about things like political science, political philosophy, history, and economics. Most Americans couldn't care less, because thinking about these things is difficult. And these concepts aren't taught in our public schools because not only are they difficult but they could pose a threat to the status quo. Should the electorate in even a limited democracy such as ours be knowledgable on these subjects? I would say, yes. But most say, no. Throughout American and world history our leaders have always referred to the majority of people as the "mob," the "rabble," or the "unwashed, uneducated masses .... + Informações |

Bush and Obama administrations. "If the Bush administration didn't like somebody, they'd kidnap them and send them to torture chambers," Chomsky says. "If the Obama administration decides they don't like somebody, they murder them." Chomsky also praises the whistleblowing activities of WikiLeaks, as well as the ongoing Latin American shift away from Washington's long-running political and economic dominance. Noam Chomsky - Peak Oil and a Changing Climate 21.83 min. | 4.9101124 avaliação | 8420 exibições In this sixth video in the series "Peak Oil and a Changing Climate" from The Nation and On The Earth Productions, linguist, philosopher and political activist Noam Chomsky talks about the Chamber of Commerce, the American Petroleum Institute and other business lobbies enthusiastically carrying out campaigns "to try and convince the population that global warming is a liberal hoax." According to Chomsky, this massive public relations campaign has succeeded in leading a good portion of the population into doubting the human causes of global warming. Known for his criticism of the media, Chomsky doesn't hold back in this clip, laying blame on mainstream media outlets such as the New York Times, which will run frontpage articles on what meteorologists think about global warming. "Meteorologists are pretty faces reading scripts telling you whether it's going to rain tomorrow," Chomsky says. "What do they have to say any more than your barber?" All this is part of the media's pursuit of "fabled objectivity." Of particular concern for Chomsky is the atmosphere of anger, fear and hostility that currently reigns in America. The public's hatred of Democrats, Republicans, big business and banks and the public's distrust of scientists all lead to general disregard for the findings of "pointy-headed elitists." The 2010 elections could be interpreted as a "death knell for the species" because most of the new Republicans in Congress are global warming deniers. "If this was happening in .... + Informações |
