The problem is, to effectively train the core you actually don't want to do just crunches. You need to work the stability of the lower back, obliques, hips, glutes and abs in order to completely train the core. Then and only then can you expect to have a foundation of core stability in place that you can work on developing a solid six pack on. Make sense? Well, in order to do that...to develop a set of impressive six pack abs you need to know the difference between ab strength and ab stability. We have already discussed the need for ab stability through plank type exercises, however in order to build ab strength you need to incorporate exercises that require you to overcome the inertia or sticking point of the muscle. Examples of these type of core exercises are Hanging leg raises (for the abs and obliques) Hanging knee raises (slightly easier but still for the abs and obliques) Reverse Crunches on a decline bench (lower abs exercise) Pairing these up with an effective oblique and core stability program allows you to get the best of both worlds. A strong core and a set of six pack abs. All of course providing you're watching what you're eating and keeping your nutrition in check. But that goes without saying at this point. And all you'll need to do this exercise is one light dumbbell! Here's how it goes: FEET TO SKY CORKSCREWS - 10 REPS EACH SIDE: Start squatting down, with the dumbbell over your right foot. Twisting from your core, throw the dumbbell over your left shoulder like your are tossing a bucket of water. It's CRITICAL for this exercise that you are using your abs to initiate the movement, and not just using the momentum from your legs to move the dumbbell. Otherwise, it's just a crappy leg workout. Twist with your core though as much as you can, and you'll be getting a killer ab workout. FIGURE EIGHTS - 20 REPS: Hold the dumbbell in front of you, and move it in a figure 8 pattern. Again, this exercise will be VERY easy if you just do it with your arms, but be sure not to do that. Hold your arms straight, and move the dumbbell around by twisting your core. I found a buyer for my XPS 730x who would pay $150 less than what I originally paid for (because I used a 25% off discount) and accepted his offer. I picked up the Quad Core 2.93 GHz version (not the Octo-core) Nehalem model with 6 gigs of RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive and the ATI Radeon 4870 Graphics Card. I received it October 1st and owned it for about two weeks until Apple suddenly released this monster i7 iMac. I knew there was going to be a mild design and clock speed update coming, but I was not aware they were going to pull the trigger with adding desktop components. I looked up the price and my jaw dropped. Literally almost IDENTICAL specifications as the Mac Pro which I paid around $3500 for. With this iMac though, I was paying over $1200 less as this was priced at $2250 (with education discount). I called up Apple asking if I could return my Mac Pro.
