Last December, the government announced that seventy percent of students passed their final examination to finish high school. In two thousand eight the passage rate was about sixty-three percent. There have been increases each year since then. Professor Shireen Motala at the University of Johannesburg says access to basic education is no longer the problem in South Africa. She says most children stay in school until they are about sixteen. The problem now, she says, is that large numbers of them leave without completing high school. Students take an examination known as the matric in grade twelve, their final or "matriculation" year. But Professor Motala says only around forty-five percent of the children who started school in two thousand sat for the matric last year. South Africa has a twenty-four percent unemployment rate. Those who drop out must compete with better educated people for jobs. Educational researchers also point to another problem. They say South African schools do not produce enough students with the skills for higher education in math and science. Researcher Graeme Bloch says many schools are not well-equipped. CAPE CANAVERAL -- Old hands out at NASA's Kennedy Space Center will tell you that no two launches are alike. However, the launch of Space Exploration Technologies' (SpaceX) Falcon 9 rocket was perhaps the singularly most unique rocket launch in recent memory. Many have said that this flight marked a new age of spaceflight, a new way of doing the business of space travel. With a press site in the midst of renovation, a dropout of video access and a wayward boat -- this marked one of the most memorable launch days in history. However, through the weather concerns, tech issues and overly-enthusiastic sightseers the SpaceX team persevered and sent their rocket off on its maiden flight. There were concerns early on that rough weather that was predicted to hit around 11:30 would cause a slip or scrub -- however weather did not pose an issue with launch. Then there was a minor tech issue with telemetry -- one which Falcon 9 techs quickly turned into a non-issue. It does seem that every launch has a small bit of "drama" included in the day's lineup of events -- however it rarely involves a wayward boat, helicopters and the US Coast Guard. Information was very hard to get but it became apparent that an "object" was in the restricted safety zone. We later found out that this "object" was a boat, that had been told to leave the area by a UH-60 Blackhawk and then, once outside the restricted zone, was intercepted by the US Coast Guard -- for a "discussion" regarding the crew's error .... + Informações

Warrior Soul is an American heavy metal band formed by lead singer Kory Clarke, guitarist John Ricco, later replaced by Alex, a Scotsman living in New York City (aka X-Factor) (aka Gene), bassist Pete McClanahan, drummer Paul Ferguson later replaced by Mark Evans and then Scott Duboys. They were signed to Geffen Records from 1989 to 1994. The band hit the scene in New York City right before 1990s grunge. Coming of age during the presidency of the first George Bush, many of its songs were politically based, from the prescient "In Conclusion" to the call to arms, "Children of the Winter." The term "Acid Punk" was coined by Clarke to explain the hard driving trippy sound that was Warrior Soul, particularly the Space Age Playboys album, mixed by Ben Gross. The style once again predicted what was going to break on the American and International rock music scene with the success of Green Day and The Offspring. The critical acclaim that accompanied the band translated to record sales in Europe but there was not enough push or touring to break in the USA. Despite recognition by peers, including Lars Ulrich from Metallica, who had been quoted as saying Space Age Playboys was his favorite album, Warrior Soul disbanded in 1995. In 1996, Odds & Ends was released as a posthumous collection of demos and left material that were to be part of a major label record (Electra, Nancy Jeffries) that got squashed by Peter Mench at Q-Prime management.
