A Neolithic Landscape - The 1st Farmers 4.05 min. | 4.090909 avaliação | 12319 exibições For almost 30 years archaeologist & historian James Balme has been walking the ancient landscape close to his home in Cheshire. During that time he has revealed and recovered ancient stone and flint implements and weapons left behind by the people of the Neolithic ( the new stone age ) from almost 8000 years ago. The landscape has provided evidence from the hunter gatherers and the first farmers to reach Britain. The landscape that we see in the countryside today is a legacy that has developed from the earliest farmers who cultivated vast areas of land across the United Kingdom providing grazing for cattle and large areas of open land for the cultivation of the first domestic crops to be grown in the rich and fertile soils of Britain. This was truly the first time that humans had become self sufficient providing food and shelter year on year.. + Informações |

River Archaeology - A Neolithic Discovery 4.12 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3293 exibições Archaeologist & Historian James Balme is well known for his work and discoveries of ancient artefacts left behind in the soils and rivers that surround us by our ancestors here in Britain. James discovered an ancient settlement in a village close to his home almost 12 years ago where he found evidence dating back over 8000 years of human occupation. Recently James turned his attentions to serarching a river that has run through the settlement for thousands of years and the results of his new investigations are to say the least stunning with a Roman bronze bracelet and flint tools already recovered. During the making of this short film James recovered a Neolithic flint tool as the cameras were present. See for yourself this wonderful flint implement as it sees the light of day for the first time in over 6000 years. Buried deep in the river bed James recovered it with nothing more technical than a spade and a sand sieve and plenty of determination and belief in what he researches. This find is yet another important piece in the historical jigsaw of the area that James is slowly but surely putting back together.. + Informações |

Lyrics: Years of development destroyed in days begins the genocide A great fire from the sky had affected the earth, moon and seas As the earth began to tilt all the polar caps had started to melt all the seas had overflown ripping the continents apart Neolithic Neolithic As the sky began to turn dark and the sun faded away all the climates had begun to drop and the ground started to freeze As the land began to freeze All the animals were trapped inside ice some animals had moved to the sea creating a new form of life Stranded on the rivers shores fossilized in time As continents ripped apart, landforms moved to the sea As continents ripped apart, landforms moved to the sea As continents ripped apart, landforms moved to the sea Rising, Soaring, Devastating, Annihilation. + Informações |

Bryn Celli Ddu - Neolithic Burial Chamber on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales 5.58 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 4804 exibições NOTICE: Music had to been changed, information at end of video is wrong now. Bryn Celli Ddu is a prehistoric site on the Welsh island of Anglesey located near Llanddaniel Fab. Its name is difficult to translate directly but means either 'the mound in the dark grove' or possibly 'the mound in the grove of the deity'. It was plundered in 1699 and archaeologically excavated between 1928 and 1929. During the Neolithic period a stone circle and henge stood at the site. An area of burnt material containing a small human bone from the ear, covered with a flat stone, was recovered. The stones were removed in the early Bronze Age when an archetypal passage grave was built over the top of the centre of the henge. A carved stone with a twisting, serpentine design stood in the burial chamber. It has since been moved to the National Museum of Wales and replaced with a replica standing outside. An earth barrow covering the grave is a twentieth century restoration; the original was probably much bigger. Norman Lockyer, who in 1906 published the first systematic study of megalithic astronomy, had argued that Bryn Celli Ddu marked the summer solstice. This was ridiculed at the time, but recent research by Steve Burrow, curator of Neolithic archaeology at Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museum of Wales) has proven his theory to be true. This alignment links Bryn Celli Ddu to a handful of other sites, including Maes Howe and Newgrange, both of which point to the midwinter solstice. It has also .... + Informações |

Ukraine Showcases Neolithic Culture 2.02 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2232 exibições CHEN: In a small village of Ukraine, the ancient ways of a neolithic culture are re-enacted. Here's the story from NTD's Ukrainian team. STORY: The Trypillian festival takes place in Rzhyschiv, a small village near Ukraine's capital. This ancient civilization is named after Trypillia, a nearby village where 5000 BC Neolithic settlements were found. And it is located along the Danube and Dnipro rivers. [Vladyslav Chabanuk, Archaeologist]: "The Trypillian culture existed on (present-day) Ukraine, Moldova and Hungary territories for over 1500 years. It took place six to five thousand years ago, maybe in even more remote times." During the festival, volunteers recreate the ancient Trypillian culture. Visitors may enjoy drumming, making pottery, building a house or some linen weaving. [Natalia Talagey, Weaver]: "If you look carefully, each thread is next to the other. And then when we push the shuttle, we can see the linen pattern." University students are having a go at ancient tapestry making. [Anastasia Cherevko, Kyiv University Student]: "I like it very much.... I have chosen the colors red, yellow and green. These colors are commonly found in nature, and when combined it makes people feel happy." The festival is completely free of alcohol, tobacco or drugs. [Oles Zhuravchyk, Festival Organizer]: "The main purpose of the festival is to send a message to young people -that today one can find traditional ways of spending free time as opposed to the urban ones." This year's .... + Informações |
