The official video for Yellowbirds "The Rest Of My Life" from the new album The Color, out now on Royal Potato Family. ABOUT THE VIDEO: I made this video between October and December 2010, using a digital still camera and a program for arranging stills into stop motion called istopmotion. The first two weeks were dedicated entirely to cutting out images with an x-acto knife. I filed those images in folders by category and spent the next two months shooting scenes on my desk using a homemade camera stand. The video moves at 15 fps, so it's comprised of nearly 3000 individual frames of paper collage. The process of cording and weaving hanji (Korean handmade paper) by a master weaver, Na Seo Hwan. He is a 3rd-generation master who learned from his father, who learned from his grandfather. He has also developed a more effective and efficient way of cording paper, which is different from the way most paper weavers work. This ancient paper craft, known formally as noyeokgae, still exists in Korea today but the intense labor, time, and strength required for it means that very few masters remain, and even fewer serious disciples. Ever wondered what it would be like to be a hula hoop? Wonder no more! Music is Paper Moon by Booka Shade. UPDATE: This video is getting a bit more attention than I ever thought it would and I'm getting asked lots of questions, so please read this first if you require more info! This was filmed using a GoPro HD Hero camera, which is designed for action filming such as surfing, motorcross etc. It can be attached to your helmet or equipment, therefore it's very small and light, which is how I can still hula hoop with it on my hoop- it's a bit more difficult but possible! It has a wide angle lens of 180 degrees, which creates this odd effect. I personally don't get dizzy watching this, but apparently some do so please don't get cross- just don't watch it if you suffer from motion sickness and don't like spinning in circles! Yes, I am wearing dungarees! It is not an apron. The outfit change is due to recording in a few takes, and I simply have my jumper on in some shots and not in others, as I got hot. Although I appreciate your interest in my choice of styling, it wasn't really something I considered, I was more interested in the camera effect. This was also my first test of using the camera in this way. Once we have summer here I will be filming some more stuff, including different camera angles. These six camera angles are included in the DVD's Special Features and presented a special challenge for me as an editor. I thought it would be amazing to sync them all up. And it really is. Also note that I've panned Entwistle's bass to the left channel and full mix to the right. (YouTube might convert all it's audio to mono, however, which would just boost the bass guitar level overall). This is a truncated version to fit into YouTube's 10-minute time constraint.
