When we heard him perform it one time, he mentioned that he thought about his old, dear friend Peter Gzowski who had recently passed away around that time. Peter was a well loved and highly respected Canadian radio broadcaster / journalist and Murray is a well loved Canadian folk and country (and on this CD even jazz) singer-songwriter who has written many wonderful songs throughout his long career. I added photos of the amazing aurora displays along with lyrics. This song would be appropriate for a memorial or funeral service.. + Informações

"Down By The Henry Moore" is from Murray McLauchlan's 1974 album, "Sweeping The Spotlight Away" and is included on the double-cd 'best of' compilation, "Songs From The Street". The "Henry Moore" is a sculpture in front of Toronto's city hall, where students met in the '60s and early 1970s. "I wrote that song as a sort of travelogue to make people feel good about Toronto," McLauchlan once said. "At the time it seemed as though a lot of my friends were complaining that there was nothing happening in the city. I believe you can always find something to do if you look for it. So I decided to write a strutting-around Toronto song to say it's up to you; you can either enjoy yourself or dump on everything." McLauchlan has won ten Juno Awards. In 1993, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. In 1998, Pengiun (Viking Books) released his autobiography, "The Ballad of Murray McLauchlan: Getting Out of Here Alive.". + Informações

AMG Biography by John Bush... Born in Scotland in 1948, Murray McLauchlan moved to Canada at the age of five. He began playing guitar several years later and, after graduation in the mid-'60s, moved to New York. The folksinger returned in 1968 and, due to popularity around Toronto, recorded his first album, Songs from the Street (1971). Fourteen more albums for True North Records followed, including Murray McLauchlan (1972), Day to Day Dust (1973), Sweeping the Spotlight Away (1974), Only the Silence Remains (1975), Boulevard (1976), Hard Rock Town (1977), Greatest Hits (1978), Whispering Rain (1979), Into a Mystery (1980), Storm Warning (1981), Windows (1982), Timberline (1983), Heroes (1984) and Midnight Break (1985).
