The story of research and technology at NASA Lewis Research Center's Structures Division is presented. The job and designs of the Structures Division needed for flight propulsion is described including structural mechanics, structural dynamics, fatigue, and fracture. The video briefly explains why properties of metals used in structural mechanics need to be tested. Examples of tests and simulations used in structural dynamics (bodies in motion) are briefly described. Destructive and non-destructive fatigue/fracture analysis is also described. I made these recordings back in the early to mid 1980's on a Panasonic RQ-3095 mono tape recorder, using Tracs brand cassette made by Michigan Magnetic's Inc. Helicopter sounds are from "Pink Floyd - The Wall" 1979 Columbia LP record, Motorcycle sounds are from "Bewitched"- 1960's comedy TV show episode where Serena magically comes into the Stevens home living room at 3 am on her motorcycle. Next sound effects I recorded using a 10 inch speaker from a 1949 Montgomery Wards - Airline radio as a microphone plugged into microphone jack on the Panasonic RQ-3095 mono tape recorder, brushing the cone with small paint brush to give the effect heard on the second half of this video. Transferred to digital using stereo gear on background photo.. + Informações

UHU glue stick, Mono Multi liquid glue, Mono tape runner permanent, mono tape runner power bond, double sided permanent tape, Yes! glue, zots and elmer's glues are being glued to text weight, cover weight, satin ribbon, grosgrain ribbon and sheer ribbon. Two weeks later the results are in. All of the glues stuck. Three of the glues had wrinkled the text to text: UHU glue stick, yes glue and elmer's. All of the test with elmer's glue wrinkled. This is recording #278. I recorded these sounds outside my bedroom back in the fall of 1986 during a wind storm in Auburn, WA. I used a hand held mono tape recorder, which isn't the best of quality. It was just me experimenting with sound as a teenager, always fascinated with sound in general. I originally had the idea, after doing this, of recording a bunch of things either found in nature or out in public. This is the first of what I called SOUNDS OF NATURE. This recording it completely unedited. I had it recorded on a maxell UDS-II 90 minute cassette tape, Position-IEC, Type II-High [CrO2]. I transferred this tape onto the Audacity music editor software from a Denon DRM-700, 3 head stereo cassette tape deck.. + Informações

The guys from Caravan Records showed up at the bar with an Ampex mono tape system and a few mics, so if the sound isn't up to day's standards, you'll understand why. 'Kapatikama' is an oldie by KAW Perera in his unique style of suspense mixed with drama genre. The trusty old mono tape recorder with reels turning round and playing electric guitar music reminds me a bit of Hank Marvin of the 1960s (Not sure whether KAW was influenced by the football world cup winner's pop culture of 1966).
