Large Format Packard Extension with Mitchell Ayres 3.95 min. | 0 avaliação | 416 exibições This set of pics describes a new extension I had made by Alan Brubaker (AWB Enterprises) for a full plate (6.5x8.5) camera. (This is the next format size down from 8x10). The extension accomplishes several things: gives me a univeral Packard shutter which I can use for barrel lenses (has a 2 1/4 opening--which is more than adequate for this format), lets me share the same lensboard size with several other cameras I have, and places 1" distance between the Packard and the lens holder. This distance is important--as some of the lenses stick out on the back of the lens holder. The rub is that every time I break out the camera, I also need to reattach the extension--I can't just leave it on, because the base of the camera will not fold over. This camera is incredibly light-weight (a 4x5 Wisner has about the same weight) and sits nice and sturdy on a tripod (Ries in this case). The music: Mitchell Ayres and his "Fashions in Music," in a radio broadcast from 1943. The tune is "King Porter Stomp." While the performance is less than pristine, this is an interesting arrangement (far different interpretation than the Fletcher Henderson version Benny Goodman used--including several transitions and a modest amount of counterpoint!), with a totally dedicated and spirited, swinging performance. They might not get it every time, but Love that brass!! This is just great stuff! Ayres would later be known for his work as arranger and director for Perry Como and Doris Day.. + Informações |

EARLY 60's DUMONT CONSOLE STEREO, MITCHELL AYRES - NUMBER 7 THEME SONG 3.72 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 327 exibições From the label: "music by Bob Hahn" "orchestra & chorus under direction of Mitchell Ayres" "compliments of No7" A theme song for cigarettes? My, how times have changed!Played on my Dumont console stereo circa early 1960s, solid wood cabinet w/walnut veneers, a fine piece of furniture made in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and kept in immaculate condition. 100% solid state (all transistorized), probably one of the first of its kind as it still uses speaker output transformers. Model T-100 tuner/pre-amplifier is what's visible in the console and a separate power amp chassis is located inside and concealed in the cabinet. The technicians at the shop tell me she's pumping out 20 watts RMS per channel; all the electronics have been rebuilt. AM/FM/FM stereo with AFC, scratch and rumble filter settings, mono button for monaural recordings (reduces groove noise). VU meters for audio balance and also for tuning strength in both AM/FM. Buttons for selecting headphones/internal/external speakers or both at once. This splits the output to 4 X 10 watts when both int/ext speakers used. Garrard 'lab series' type A record changer completely overhauled, new Shure cartridge and elliptical stylus for incredible frequency response and tracking at 3.0 grams. Each speaker chamber is air-tight and acoustic suspension with: 12 inch polypropylene woofer w/rubber surround; 5 inch midrange; 4 inch tweeter and 1-1/2 inch supertweeter each with dedicated crossover. This piece of equipment kicks butt, if .... + Informações |

1947 Buddy Clark - The Little Old Mill (Went 'Round And 'Round) 3.12 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 58 exibições My dad, a big fan of Buddy Clark, would often include one of his new releases among the 78s that he purchased at the local record store and brought home to delight his music-obsessed little boy. Of the lesser-known Clark titles, this has always been one of my favorites, a minor hit in late '47 that was also recorded by Sammy Kaye (RCA), Hal Derwin (Capitol), Frankie Masters (MGM), and Milt Herth (Decca). Mitchell Ayres conducts this session, as he did for a number of Columbia vocalists during the second half of the 40s decade. It was in 1949 that he moved over to RCA Victor to continue what would become a lengthy professional relationship with Perry Como, for whom he was currently conducting on radio and TV. Transferred from the original 78rpm: Columbia 37920 - The Little Old Mill (Went 'Round And 'Round) (Pelosi-Ilda-Towers) by Buddy Clark, orchestra conducted by Mitchell Ayres. + Informações |
