"Mule Train" is a popular song written by Johnny Lange, Hy Heath, and Fred Glickman. It is a novelty cowboy song, supposedly sung by an Old-West wagon driver spurring on his mules as he recites the goods he is delivering to far-flung mail-order customers. Charting versions were recorded by Frankie Laine, Bing Crosby, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and Vaughn Monroe. We're featuring Frankie Laine's version. The Frankie Laine recording was recorded on October 2, 1949, and released by Mercury Records. The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts in November 1949 and lasted 13 weeks on the chart, peaking at #1. Laine's recording of the song was produced by Mitch Miller. It featured a bellowed vocal delivery (like that of a real driver shouting to be heard) and studio-created gimmicks such as whipcracking sound effects. The Greenfields started in 1970 as a Trio. Unfortunately after some years, Charles passed away and Joe and Carmen Tanti continued as a duo and sang many Maltese Folkloristic songs mostly penned by Joe himself. "Green, Green Grass of Home", written by Claude "Curly" Putman, Jr., is a country song originally made popular by Porter Wagoner in 1965 and Bobby Bare in 1965. It was sung later by Tom Jones in 1966 when it reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on 3 December staying there for a total of seven weeks. It had also been recorded the previous year, 1965, by Jerry Lee Lewis, and included on his album Country Songs For City Folks, and Jones learned the song from Lewis's version. The Tom Jones record reached #11 pop, #12 easy listening on the Billboard US charts. Since then it has been a popular cover song recorded by many in English and in other languages. A man returns to his childhood home; it seems that this is his first visit home since leaving in his youth.
