Malta is a tiny nation with two major inhabited islands. But, it has a concentration of history and beauty. In this video we're showing you scenery, churches, the sea and historic buildings spread around the islands. Mro Camilleri started composing music at a tender age, at 11 he wrote a band march, his first works were already being performed in London and the US by the time he was 23. In 1972, the prestigious recording company DECCA recorded his Missa Mundi, a five-movement piece for the pipe organ which his publisher nicknamed "the organ's Rite of Spring. This comparison with Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" was elicited with the groundbreaking techniques used by Mro Camilleri in his work for the pipe organ, that were as innovative to the instrument as Stravinsky's 1913 ballet for the genre. Among his, oeuvres which exceed 300 pieces, one cannot but mention the Malta Suite (1946) and The Maltese Cross (1995). Half of his works are recorded in over 35 CDs and sold world wide with works used as examination pieces, as was his laconic Cantilena. You'll hear some Maltese folk music complimented by photos of paintings of Malta drawn by John Scerri, a Maltese who is now living in Canada. John Scerri is a retired woodwork teacher. He was born in Hamrun Malta but emigrated to Canada many years ago. After he retired, he continued to do some woodwork at home and once his wife suggested he should try his hand on painting. He took a few courses to familiarize himself with mixing the colors and a few painting techniques and he eventually came up with some very beautiful paintings, mostly of his beloved Malta but he also painted some other topics.
