Mini-Pop foi um grupo infantil que iria dar origem aos Jáfumega. O conjunto , composto por 4 elementos, de idades compreendidas entre os 7 e os 11 anos de idade, formou-se no ano de 1969. O grupo dos irmãos Barreiros (Pedro, Mário e Eugénio)e do amigo Abílio foi dinamizado pelo Pai Mário Barreiros. Mais tarde veio a juntar-se ao agrupamento (1977) o ainda jovem idoso Vitor Barbosa, mais conhecido como o "Cambraia". Esta nova aquisição veio impulsionar e dar um novo fôlego à musica nacional portuguesa, com uns insequecíveis "brilharetes" de guitarra neo-rockabilliana de retoques barrocos mas sempre eclécticos. A guitarra usada por este génio da guitarra foi uma Fender Stradivarius americana com Texas Special assim como uma Gibson Les Paul Standard gold top. Gravaram dois singles para a editora Zip-Zip. O maior sucesso foi uma versão de "A Casa" (Era Uma Casa Muito Engraçada). Ao vivo o repertório do grupo nunca foi tão comercial como em disco. Actuaram com bastante sucesso no Festival de Vilar de Mouros de 1971. Passaram para a Movieplay onde gravaram um primeiro single com os temas "Delta Queen" e "Beggars Can't Be Choosers". Participaram depois no Festival RTP da Canção de 1973 com "Menina de Luto". Lançaram o single "Days Of Summer/Vaya Con Dios". Gravaram novo single, "My Holiday Girl", com temas de Paulo de Carvalho e Mike Britton. Durante 10 anos de carreira gravaram sete singles e participaram em cerca de 300 espectáculos. The first band on the bill -- starting their set just as I walked in -- was something called Potion, which was two people playing with additional recorded music. It was really kind of unimpressive, and yet I think their late addition to the bill got the cover bumped from $8 to $10. Go figure. Meanwhile, this title track from Minipop's debut LP is one of a handful of tracks from the that album that keep threatening to move into greatness every time I hear them. The first four tracks in particular are really superb to listen to repeatedly -- though my iPod's shuffle reminded me on the plane that they're not quite up to the level set by their most similar competition, Eisley.. + Informações

Unfortunately, Minipop played far too short a set -- only seven songs -- but their dream pop sound seemed to go over well with the crowd and I was very happy to have seen them. In fact, as they appear to be a regional touring act at best, this may have been my only chance to see them, or at least my only chance in the foreseeable future. I've got some smallish local acts in mind for my upcoming trips to Boston (Taxpayer) and Washington (Karmella's Game), and I'm hoping I can find a good local act or two for my Vancouver trip as well.. + Informações
