Guante & Big Cats - The Hero 4.70 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1067 exibições Please SUBSCRIBE...more videos to come! Off the 2010 album by Guante And Big Cats titled "Don't Be Nice", this track is called "The Hero." Formerly known as "El Guante", Guante is a rap veteran with his producing crew, Big Cats from Minneapolis, Minnesota (originally from Madison, Wisconsin). This allegorical song means a lot to me, along with his more popular track "No Capes." 'The Hero' represents an idealistic naive community hero who has a positive admirable image to the public, but is viewed sardonically by Guante. 'The Hero' is that neighborhood good guy, he doesn't necessarily have to be Superman or a man with extraordinary superpowers, he's just an individual who is very naive. In this track, Guante represents a character, a petty thief who (1:40) "stole $100 from a burger king" (that he works at). Guante is trying to lecture this idealistic "Hero" about the societal truths: the real good guys and the real bad guys. He stole $100 because "minimum wage is not enough in this country" (immortal technique said the same thing in "Harlem Streets.") So while the Hero is focused on trying to protect the publicly-viewed 'bad guys', he completely fails to see the REAL evil, which is the politicians, the greedy corporate executives and the oil companies killing the environment. Basically, Guante is explaining how the Hero is just wasting his time with a petty thief, as opposed to time spent on solving the real root of the problems that cyclically cause poverty and other .... + Informações |

Heroic Egyptian Shows Tiananmen-like Courage, Cairo Demonstrations 018, 25/01/2011 1.73 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1125 exibições The 2011 Egyptian protests are a continuing series of street demonstrations taking place throughout Egypt from January 2011 onwards, with organizers counting on the Tunisian uprising to inspire the crowds to mobilize. The demonstrations and riots were reported to have started over police brutality, State of emergency laws, unemployment, desire to raise the minimum wage, lack of housing, food inflation, corruption, lack of freedom of speech and poor living conditions. The protests main goal is to oust President Hosni Mubarak who has been in power for more than 30 years. While localized protests were already commonplace in previous years, major protests and riots erupted all over the country starting on 25 January, known as the "Day of Anger", the date set by Egyptian opposition groups and others for a major demonstration. The 2011 protests have been called "unprecedented" for Egypt, and "some of the most serious civil unrest in recent memory" in the country. Hosni Mubarak presidency: President Hosni Mubarak has ruled Egypt since 1981. His government, which has been criticized in the media and amongst NGOs, is supported by the United States because of his "persecution of the Islamists generally supportive of Israel." As a result, the initial reactions to Hosni Mubarak's abuses by the US were muted, and most instances of socio-political protest in the country, when they occurred at all, rarely made major news headlines. Corruption: While in office, political corruption in .... + Informações |

EDWARD R. MURROW --MY HERO 3.07 min. | 4.690909 avaliação | 46283 exibições The video portion used 3 minutes 2 seconds of a one-hour BIOGRAPHY CHANNEL documentary on Edward R Murrow. In addition, for the music portion, I took two clips (both roughly 25 seconds) of the 4 minute 50 second Fleetwood Mac song called "Brown Eyes". Regarding Television, Edward R Murrow said: In 1958, Edward R. Murrow stated, "Our history will be what we make it. And if there are any historians about fifty or a hundred years from now, and there should be preserved the kinescopes for one week of all three networks, they will there find recorded in black and white, or color, evidence of decadence, escapism and insulation from the realities of the world in which we live." Next year, Mr. Murrow's speech will "celebrate" its 50th anniversay... The citizens in our free countries (I'm Canadian) are in such desperate-desperate need for Edward R Murrows. Not just on television, or in national printed media --but even at the smallest of local levels. Yes, Washington and Ottawa affairs are important. But the day-to-dayness that most affects people's lives play themselves out at the local, municipal level. I reached the sad and unavoidable conclusion that some of our "city halls" are dominated and run by a Corporate Repressive Evil Empire Power Structure. I despair that I'm just not smart enough, tenacious enough, courageous enough to right the problem. I realize it isn't me whose most affected since I'm part of the comfortable class. I despair though at the statistics of "The .... + Informações |

110th Labor Day Celebration - 5/1/2012 1.57 min. | 0 avaliação | 170 exibições Heroes' Hall, Malacañang 1 May 2012 As the nation marks Labor Day, President Benigno S. Aquino III convened with different labor union leaders and members of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) to yield a meaningful exchange of information and views on pressing issues in the labor industry. Federation of Free Workers National President Atty. Jose Matula appealed to the government and spoke on the worsening issue of contractualization of employees, which resulted to deprivation of security of tenure and protection of employees' rights to regularization. He also mentioned the rising cost of electricity and fuel and the lack of farm-to-market roads in various areas in the country. Atty. Matula asked the President to defend the right of employees to establish unions, ratify the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 189 for Domestic Workers, and approve the Magna Carta on Domestic Workers. In reply, the President said that his government is implementing the Department of Labor and Employment Order 18-A. "Ipinagbabawal po nito ang abusadong pagre-renew ng kontrata kada limang buwan, para lamang makatipid ang mga kompanya sa pagpapasahod sa mga manggagawa," he stated. On the intensifying price hike of electricity, he said that the administration is looking for the possibility of "open access" to the EPIRA law. An open access to transmission and distribution of network and facilities, which will promote competition among suppliers, will therefore .... + Informações |

War on Drugs/ Drug Prohibition=More Use, Violence 3.53 min. | 4.5555553 avaliação | 558 exibições Drug prohibition has created a culture of gangs and violence in the US "Gangsta Rap" focuses on the drug trade. This music emphasizes an "US v. THEM" attitude, and our police are being characterized as the THEM. Inner city African American singers, primarily male, popularized this genre of music. Suburban Whites and other Ethnic groups now idolize these modern "heroes." Drug lords hire many young children. with kids making wonderful "runners" and lookouts for their business. A kid working at McDonalds for minimum wage is very tempted when he/she can sell dope and drive a BMW at 16. The War on Drugs is creating an upside down incentive system. Mexican drug trafficking organizations make billions each year smuggling drugs into the US, making enormous profits as a result of our FAILED Drug Prohibition policies. Since Mexican president Felipe Calderon took office in December 2006 and called the armed forces into the fight against the so-called Drug Cartels, Drug Prohibition-related violence has killed more than 38000 people, including more than 15000 last year. In New York City, a panel of high-profile personalities declared the War on Drugs "a failure" and called for a shift in policies, including decriminalization and a more public health-oriented response. The Global Commission on Drug Policy includes several former Presidents, with former Mexican president Ernesto Zedillo among them. The fact is that even the most dangerous drugs do not represent a sufficiently great .... + Informações |
