www.clarimind.com You can optimize your long-term memory and concentration by: 1) Exercising Regulary - A fit body supports a healthy mind, and a healthy mind is a necessity for superior recall and focus. Beside improving circulation and raising oxygen levels, exercise causes your brain to release dopamine which gives you a sense of well-being and promotes restorative sleep. This counters the stress which lowers dopamine levels in the body leading to an unhealthy outlook and poor sleep. 2) Breathing Mindfully - Slow, regular, and full-intake breathing (which fills the stomach) optimizes oxygen levels in your body, relieves stress, and boosts concentration levels. This type of breathing is practiced by meditation practitioners. Most people practice shallow chest breathing, which is an improper and detrimental breathing technique. In Western society, big chests and small waists are glorified, leading to this unhealthy breathing practice. By fully utilizing the diaphragm and expanding the belly on inhales and contracting on exhales, the body will enjoy increased benefits. 3) Eating Properly - A balanced diet with sufficient essential fatty acids which help build brain cells, amino acids which are required for neurotransmitter production, and carbohydrates which provide glucose ("the brain's fuel") is critical for optimal brain function. Foods rich in essential fatty acids include dry roasted nuts, pumpkin seeds, salmon, sardines, trout, tuna, avocados, and fresh coconut .... + Informações

Mind Games: Prozac, Depression, and the Mind : TopVideos.com.br Mind Games: Prozac, Depression, and the Mind

www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.encognitive.com The adverse effects of Prozac can be traced to the drug's effect on brain chemistry. As Peter R. Breggin, MD, explains in Talking Back to Prozac What Doctors Aren't Telling You About Today's Most Controversial Drug, Prozac acts as a stimulant to the nervous system.6 Therefore, it can produce side effects that mimic those of amphetamines and are exaggerations of the desired effects of Prozac in relieving depression. According to Dr. Breggin, the FDA psychiatrist who wrote the agency's safety review of Prozac stated that the drug's effects--including nausea, insomnia and nervousness--resembled the profile of a stimulant drug, rather than a sedative.7 Dr. Breggin adds that nearly all of the side effects of Prozac listed in the Physician's Desk Reference "fit into the stimulant profile." Among others, these stimulant symptoms include headaches, nervousness, insomnia, anxiety, agitation, tremors, weight loss, nausea, diarrhea, mouth dryness, anorexia and excessive sweating. In short, a drug that acts as a stimulant also can overstimulate the body systems. In his book, Dr. Breggin offers the example of a person who takes Prozac to relieve depression (the beneficial effect) and suffers from agitation and insomnia (the negative effects). These adverse effects "are inherent in the stimulant effect that produces feelings of energy and well-being," Dr. Breggin writes. "In this sense, the difference between 'therapeutic effects' and .... + Informações

Food can make us feel happy, more alert or even ready for a night of steamy passion. In the brave new world of mood food, what we eat could even cut crime. Science is revealing that everything we eat has the potential to change our brain chemistry and as a result the way we think and feel. Were entering a brave new world where knowledge about the connections between food and mood could transform our lives. So could the right food make us feel happy, more alert or even ready for a night of steamy passion? British police are testing chocolate as a secret weapon in the fight against street crime. In the town of Bournemouth thousands of people stream in and out of bars and nightclubs over the weekend. Add alcohol to the mix and its a formula for street brawls and rowdy behaviour. But what happens if you hand out chocolate at closing time? The initial results have been extraordinary. And its all because the natural chemicals in chocolate make people feel happy and therefore less aggressive. Top chess players Terry and Paul find out whether food can sharpen the mind. They eat contrasting meals one designed to create drowsiness, the other to promote alertness. Then they meet for a dramatic chess showdown. May the best fed man win. Meanwhile Diana Ralston tries to conquer years of depression by changing her diet. She visits a top nutritionist who completely revamps her eating habits. Synesthesia : TopVideos.com.br Synesthesia

This video was part of a design project that I did for an art class. I experience something called Synesthesia, which literally means "a union of the senses". Basically, I "see" colors and shapes when I hear music. For example, I play piano and I associate a specific color for every chord on the instrument. My art project explained what Synesthesia entails and gave a glimpse into the mind of someone who experiences this phenomena (me). I used my color-sound associations to create these videos. So, I'm not using LSD. Let me just get that out of the way. It's just natural to me. However, I don't think Synesthesia is a "condition", per se. I think everyone's senses are connected in this way, but the fact that I'm very sensitive to color and sound (I'm artistic and musical) allows me to realize the full effect of what I'm experiencing. Everyone has a unique brains, yes, but the potential for there to be certain "wiring" is there, right? I guess we'll find out with future studies in neurology. The Beatle's song "Here Comes The Sun" is one of The Beatles' happiest songs because the melody is uplifting and at a fairly fast tempo, but more importantly the song is written in A Major. To me, A Major is the happiest chord because it makes me "feel" a bright, sweet lemon yellow. So who knows. Mabe that's what the song does to you, as well, but you didn't realize that's what was going on. All I know is that the song wouldn't have the same effect on me if it were written in an other .... + Informações

Brain Eating Vaccines: The Reality Behind The Brain Eating Vaccines: The Reality Behind The "Conspiracy Theory" - Alex Jones Tv

Brain Eating Vaccines: The Reality Behind The "Conspiracy Theory" Wired Magazine hit piece attempts to debunk legitimate concerns about agenda to chemically lobotomize general public through vaccines, water supply Paul Joseph Watson www.infowars.com Wednesday, August 4, 2010 UPDATED WITH PERSONAL STATEMENT BY ALEX JONES Wired Magazine writer Jonah Lehrer has labeled concerns that vaccines which alter brain chemistry and induce states of "focused calm" could be abused by governments to create lobotomized, servile populations as delusional, paranoid, and idiotic conspiracy theories, despite the fact that major mental health professionals are already pushing for lithium to be introduced into water supplies as a means of mass medicating against "mood disorders". Lehrer, an Oxford University graduate and a Rhodes Scholar, brazenly calls Alex Jones a liar in his article today after Jones put out a You Tube video in which he warned that new vaccines designed to reduce stress and neutralize people's anger could lead to a nightmare THX 1138 scenario, in which the population is controlled and subjugated through the use of special drugs to suppress emotion. Jones also encouraged listeners to Google search the words "brain eating vaccines," causing the term to rise to the number 1 position on Google Trends for August 3rd. www.infowars.com. + Informações

What your Doctor isn't Telling You. Psychiatry vs. Physical Medicine Dr. Moria Dolan, Executive Director for the Medical Accountability Network discusses the link between antidepressants medications and suicide, violence and school shootings. Seung-hui Cho w/ the Virginia Tech massacre adds to a long list of incidents over the last 15 to 20 years including Columbine and Red Lake High, She also discusses antidepressant drugs like like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. These medications are known to cause adverse events which can contribute to violence such as hallucinations, agitation, emotional instability, violence, paranoia, etc. These adverse events are clearly labeled on the FDA approved prescribing information leaflet for the medication. These labels often contain confusing medical terms and Dr. Dolan explains in plain English what these adverse events means. Although the psychiatric advertising jargon of the chemical imbalance in the brain theory is widely promoted, Dr. Dolan points out that there are no biological markers for mental disorders. There are no physical tests done to measure someone's brain chemistry. Depression is widely associated with the neurotransmitter serotonin however, there is no standard by which one can measure an abnormal serotonin level. Additionally, SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) as well as other psychiatric drugs show an affect in the brain during brain scans whereas psychiatric .... + Informações

Suggests Christof Koch: "Let's treat consciousness as an empirical problem to be tackled by the biological sciences." Koch makes distinctions between different kinds of consciousness: sleep and its varied stages; awareness of sounds, sights and smells; levels of arousal. All these different states are properties "of complex adaptive networks with massive feedback shaped by natural selection." And there are many behaviors that occur without consciousness. "When we talk, we don't know what we're going to say," says Koch. His research has focused on finding "neural correlates of consciousness." In one experiment with patients whose brains were implanted with 100 electrodes, he flashed pictures of Jennifer Aniston and the Sydney Opera House. While the patients could not remember what they'd seen, neurons responded selectively to these images. Studies like this, with even more sensitive tools, may some day help develop an information-based theory .... + Informações

James Fallon - Oslo Freedom Forum 2011 : TopVideos.com.br James Fallon - Oslo Freedom Forum 2011

James Fallon begins the first session of the opening day of the 2011 Oslo Freedom Forum with a fascinating tour of a hypothetical dictator's brain. Since almost no studies have been conducted on the brain chemistry of tyrants, Fallon uses tests performed on psychopaths, who share many of the same characteristics, as a foundation for his theories. Virtually all dictators can be classified as psychopaths?they exhibit malignant narcissism, lie pathologically, and many are involved in murder. Furthermore, psychopathy can be viewed as a three-legged stool, as Fallon explains. When the presence of genetic alleles that are at high risk for aggression and violence is combined with functional brain loss and abuse in childhood, the three legs are intact and the conditions for psychopathy are met. Fallon also points out specific areas of the brain that are likely to be damaged in dictators, such as the orbital cortex and amygdala, which balance each other in a normal individual. Interestingly, our society actually encourages psychopathic traits; psychopaths are often successful in fields ranging from medicine to business. Of course, psychopaths only form a small percentage of the population, but when one rises to power the results can be disastrous. Follow us @OsloFreedomFrm. + Informações

Why do we crave love so much, even to the point that we would die for it? To learn more about our very real, very physical need for romantic love, Helen Fisher and her research team took MRIs of people in love -- and people who had just been dumped. When two people are attracted to each other, a virtual explosion of adrenaline-like nuerochemicals gush forth. Fireworks explode and we see stars. PEA or phenylethylamine is a chemical that speeds up the flow of information between nerve cells. Also, involved in chemistry are dopamine and norepinephrine, chemical cousins of amphetamines. Dopamine makes us feel good and norepinephrine stimulates the production of adrenaline. It makes our heart race! These three chemicals combine to give us infatuation or chemistry. It is why new lovers feel euphoric and energized, and float on air. It is also why new lovers can make love for hours and talk all night for weeks on end. This is the chemistry or the love sparks we all seek. Singles search for love armed with a list of qualities desired in a mate/lover, such as honesty, fidelity, loyalty, sense of humor, intelligence, warmth, etc. Yet when that person appears they say, they are really nice, but nothing clicked, just no chemistry. We always seek the chemistry high. Unfortunately, we hear that click when we recognize our original parent/child situation. That's when our brain really gets those phenylethylamines and other chemicals moving. Some people become veritable 'love junkies .... + Informações

The next great advance in biology will change more than science textbooks - it will revolutionise the way you live your life. Dr. Bruce H. Lipton explains "In the past, weve been taught that living beings are like machines run by biochemicals and DNA. What we now know is that our entire biology is shaped by the intelligence of each of our fifty trillion cells. And the single most important way to influence them is through the energy of our beliefs." This world renowned cellular biologist explores the mysteries of: * The science of epigenetics: why biologists must look further than DNA to find out what shapes life - and how that affects you * Bridging the gap between quantum mechanics and biology - the key to knowing how your cells "listen" to the energy of your thoughts * The chemistry of stress and love - how your body, mind, and immune system change with each emotional state * Turning the immense power of your subconscious mind into your most valuable tool for health and wellbeing, and much more. + Informações
