First (and only) single from Michael Bolotin's 1976 album Every Day of My Life released on RCA Records. At this point, Bolotin was simply honoring a two-album record deal and the label gave him virtually no marketing support. The album was recorded in Toronto at the now-defunct Nimbus 9 studios with Jack Richardson serving as producer. Only four of the songs on the album were written by Bolotin himself (including this one). Bolotin, then aged 23, retreated to New Haven where he continued to perform, honing his skills and making a slight change from sensitive singer-songwriter to a rock vocalist. Recorded at Leon Russell's Tulsa studio, this version is likely the demo heard by Stephen Holden, then an A&R rep for RCA. The song, with some minor differences in arrangement and a much shorter length, would be re-recorded for the album on January 20th, 1975 in New York. Album track from Blackjack's 1979 debut album. Personally, I think this song should have been released as the second single after "Love Me Tonight." While the weak production (courtesy of, surprisingly, Tom Dowd) hinders the sound of the album overall, this track seems to have the most going for it. Bolotin's growl is used to very good effect, and the main riff is catchy. The song is available on the Blackjack: Anthology CD worldwide, so if you like it, buy it. Oh, and sorry that the photo is from their second album, Worlds Apart. It's getting hard to find different Blackjack photos!
