Artist's Statement: . I knew I wanted my fellow library coworker, Melissa, to be my subject for my fourth video. I had discovered that Melissa did roller derby, a sport which I have grown increasingly interested in over the past five months. It was most difficult to figure out a shooting schedule of sorts while working with her. She and I have the exact opposite schedules. I found out when and where her practice was and I got myself and all my equipment there. The trip down to South St. Louis City for the practice and the bout were the farthest I had to travel for my projects for the class. I cannot imagine the amount of work the students who did underground economy videos had to orchestrate. I feel, however, that the experience was gratifying. I learned so much about a sport that I was truly interested in and that not a lot of people are highly aware of. I will admit to being completely and totally envious of Melissa and her skill even as a novice derby girl. There is a level of physical expression and aggression in the sport that is not seen in other sports. I am jealous that she gets to express herself in such an articulate, but brutish way.. + Informações
