Released in 2000 on Kindercore Records. M Coast was started in 1996 by a guy named Andy Gonzales, who was living in Denver at the time. He has seen called it quits and is a member of Of Montreal and Music Tapes. On this album, Andy actually enlisted some members Of Montreal and Neutral Milk hotel to pitch in. The sound captured on here a reminiscent of of Daniel Johnston with a little Sea and Cake thrown in. Lo fi indie pop with charming melodies and sweet harmonies. Lots of songs about love and past relationships, all played competently and with a degree of heartfelt sincerity. Andy's voice and lo fi aesthetic is what reminds me of Johnston, as well as some of the "crazier" aspects. The variety of instruments and the calm, feel good, sunshine sound is what reminds me of Sea and Cake. I could see this being being played by buskers at a beach resort for rich tourists. If your a fan of Of Montreal or Neutral Milk Hotel or just like quirky little songs about love and relationships, you might plenty to enjoy on here. This album is not altogether unique, but does have some genuine moments of pop genius and is mostly a pleasure to listen to. Hung Up is my stand out track. Some tracks seem to be a little unfocused, but as a whole, these guys sound like , if given the time, they could record a pretty bad ass lo fi pop album, if they haven't already. Not a bad album for 50 cents. 3/5. + Informações
