Impossible motion: magnet-like slopes 1.62 min. | 4.939992 avaliação | 5211112 exibições Winner of the Best Visual Illusion of the Year Contest 2010 illusioncontest.neuralcorrelate.com Koukichi Sugihara Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences, Japan In this video, wooden balls roll up the slopes just as if they are pulled by a magnet. The behavior of the balls seems impossible, because it is against the gravity. The video is not a computer graphic, but a real scene. What is actually happening is that the orientations of the slopes are perceived oppositely, and hence the descending motion is misinterpreted as ascending motion. This illusion is remarkable in that it is generated by a three-dimensional solid object and physical motion, instead of a two-dimensional picture.. + Informações |

Highbanker Sluicing with a Magnet Bar 3.13 min. | 4.9310346 avaliação | 55112 exibições This is a magnet bar I made for my sluice box. I don't sell them but the materials are easily available. If you like the video, please leave a thumbs up. The 1x4 board was just a scrap piece I had laying around. I used a towel rack for the pipe. It came from the dollar store. Once you have the bar - measure the inside opening before buying magnets. The magnets came from eBay. Be sure to get 4 magnets that are north south polarization on the sides and not on the ends. The screws and bolts came from the dollar store. The carpet runner is a softer rubber that also came from the dollar store. I use the le trap pan however it should work as well on the aluminium sluice boxes.. + Informações |

Neodymium Magnets Magnetic Ball Spins for over five minutes LOW FRICTION BEARING 8.03 min. | 4.8341465 avaliação | 36065 exibições This video illustrates the low friction from a magnetic connection. The powerful Neodymium Magnets are rated at 87-112 pounds of pull force. I have smashed my fingers 4 times. They are really dangerous. The balls are regular steel ball bearings and are NOT magnets. The smaller ones are 3/4 inch and the large ones are 2 inch x 2 pound steel ball bearings. They become magnetized when entering the magnetic field. The further away from the original magnetic field, the lower resistance the steel balls experience. There is an optimal distance based in the weight of the final ball. I am not sure what application this can be used for if any but it is quite amazing for a 5:37 hand spin.. + Informações |

MAGNET MAGIC / SUPER CONDUCTORS 1.72 min. | 4.908046 avaliação | 37018 exibições This is an excellent demo of super conductivity. The liquid is liquid nitrogen. The disk is a magnet. The black block is the super conducting (SC) material (but becomes SC only below its critical temperature, somewhat higher than liquid nitrogen). When warm, the block has no particular magnetic / electric properties. When cooled, it becomes a SC. One of the properties of a SC is that magnetic fields can be pinned in place in the SC. A moving magnetic field generates eddie currents within conductors, and can be felt as a resistance to relative motion. In most materials, this current quickly decays due to electrical resistance. In SC, eddie currents do not decay, but instead will tend to hold the magnetic field in place.. + Informações |

Largest neodymium magnet in the world? [HD] 3.53 min. | 4.866071 avaliação | 125712 exibições This video features my largest neodymium magnet which also happens to be one of the largest in the world. I haven't seen neodymium magnets larger than 6 inches (I've heard about thin 8 inchers). There is no need for a larger one so they never really bothered to make them or the equipment needed for a larger one. A lot of people ask what the magnet costed me. The normal prize for this magnet is 349 Euro which is around 470 US Dollars in today's exhange rates (february 2011). It is easy to get 10% discount and more is possible if? you buy frequently like me. I still paid alot for this magnet though... [Update august 2011: The prize is now 799?. I guess neodymium is getting very expensive very fast! A lot of people have asked me why I would buy a 500$ magnet. I like to answer: Because it is now worth the double :-p] This was my first HD-video on Youtube. It was shot with a Canon HF10 in 1920 x 1080i AVCHD and edited on a Dell Studio XPS with Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate Collection (version 14). The recorded sound is not so good in this video because of a lot of background noise. This is not the video camera's fault. I had to shoot this video with the camera far away from the magnet and then zoom in. This is to avoid any damage to the camera from the strong magnetic field, flying shrapnel etc. In more recent HD-videos I have recorded in 1080p, since Youtubes compressor hates interlaced formats and adds the digital artifacts you see in this video. The text on the magnet is .... + Informações |

Exotic Metals vs. Magnet (including uranium) 10.53 min. | 4.9298244 avaliação | 11092 exibições I believe this video is unique. I haven't found a video on YouTube showing so many different metals and their effect with magnets. I dream of getting all the available elemental metals and make updates for this video. Video responses with magnets versus other metals not featured in my video are more than welcome! Music by Kevin MacLeod from www.incompetech.com. Songs used: Sovereign, Atlantean Twilight and Darkness is coming. His music is free and royalty free for download which is perfect for an amateur video maker like me but I have made a fair donation since I use his music extensively in my videos. Close captions are available in English and Danish (click the CC button under the video): Hi. Welcome to my video on how magnets reacts with a lot of different elemental metals. I've made this video because a lot of people seems to know very little about how metals reacts with a magnet. I haven't been able to afford all available metals yet but will expand in the future so I can update this video. Some of the metal samples are quite small due to cost so I'll use a magnet of similar size. It's tiny but has the power to reveal any attraction to the metals. Let's start with a simple one: Iron. Iron is ferromagnetic meaning that it will not only be attracted to a magnet It can be magnetized in itself. So can nickel and cobalt. Gadolinium is actually also ferromagnetic but only below 20 degrees celsius. Above 20 degree celsius it turns strongly paramagnetic. This means it still .... + Informações |

Richard Feynman Magnets 7.55 min. | 4.966555 avaliação | 55462 exibições Richard Phillips Feynman was an American physicist known for the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics and the physics of the super fluidity of super cooled liquid helium, as well as work in particle physics (he proposed the Parton model). For his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics, Feynman was a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965, together with Julian Schwinger and Sin-Itiro Tomonaga. Feynman developed a widely used pictorial representation scheme for the mathematical expressions governing the behavior of subatomic particles, which later became known as Feynman diagrams. During his lifetime and after his death, Feynman became one of the most publicly known scientists in the world.. + Informações |

A Magnet Machine 1.93 min. | 4.9402347 avaliação | 367993 exibições This machine manipulates small spherical rare earth magnets, slicing one at a time from the end of a long chain, moving it around a bit, then dropping it back to re-connect at the tail end of the chain. It also demonstrates a little snippet of science called eddy currents. Watch how slowly the magnet falls through the aluminum tube compared to falling through air: the falling magnet generates an electrical current in the tube, and that current in turn generates a magnetic field that opposes the movement of the magnet, slowing it down dramatically. See en.wikipedia.org if you want more. I made this machine for my father-in-law for his 75th birthday: astute viewers equipped with video analysis software and way too much time on their hands might find that the magnet drops 75mm from the tip of the slicer until caught by the lifter, and that the lifter then drops it through a 75mm long aluminum tube. These magnets are currently a popular toy, and can be purchased on the web or in stores (usually in a set of 216, which makes a 6x6x6 cube). Many different brands exist: Zen Magnets (zenmagnets.com Buckyballs (www.getbuckyballs.com nanodots (www.thenanodots.com Neo Cube (www.theneocube.com and more. I highly recommend this toy! Watch some videos at the above sites. I used a plastic drywall anchor for the main screw drive that pulls the chain of magnets through the machine. The 2 other driven axles -- the slicer and and the lifter -- are geared directly to the screw drive. (Steven .... + Informações |

The neodymium magnets are super powerful and even though they are not attracted to the copper, they still produce eddy currents that buffer the fall as seen in the video. Magnet motor: levitation 2.23 min. | 4.9101124 avaliação | 77762 exibições Levitation by means of opposing magnets. Explanation to replicate: Needed: 4 speakers alike, a cylindrical piece of wood, wood based or plastic, mirror or glass. The magnets are removed from the speakers, two of them are left intact and for include it later in the compartment housing wooden tube. The other two speakers are broken in half to obtain two semi circles and go to paste on the base. At the wooden cylinder at one end tapering to form the tip of the nose and you go to paste a ball of steel. The mirror or glass molded in the shape that you want, it go to paste at the end of the base and remain at 90° on the base. The magnets must be placed on the base in the opposite direction, "to repel each other." At this point you just have to start the replication...... + Informações |

Liquid Magnet Sculpture 2.67 min. | 4.9207354 avaliação | 2536178 exibições A ferrofluid (from the Latin ferrum, meaning iron) is a liquid which becomes strongly polarised in the presence of a magnetic field. Ferrofluids are composed of nanoscale ferromagnetic particles suspended in a carrier fluid, usually an organic solvent or water. The ferromagnetic nano-particles are coated with a surfactant to prevent their agglomeration (due to van der Waals and magnetic forces). Although the name may suggest otherwise, ferrofluids do not display ferromagnetism, since they do not retain magnetisation in the absence of an externally applied field. In fact, ferrofluids display paramagnetism, and are often referred as being "superparamagnetic" due to their large magnetic susceptibility. True ferromagnetic fluids are difficult to create at present.. + Informações |
