I was supposed to, but missed uploading this a couple of days ago in memory of the 240th birthday of Ludwig Van Beethoven (16th December 1770) I thought the Choral fantasy would be a fitting tribute to the musical philosopher and beloved master and genius. The work was first performed in 22 December 1808. Pasted from Wikipedia: Beethoven wrote the piece during the second half of December, an unusually short time by his standards. He commissioned a poet whose identity is disputed, to write the words shortly before the performance to fit the already written parts. According to Beethoven's pupil Karl Czerny, the poet was Cristoph Kuffner; the later Beethoven scholar Gustav Nottebohm doubted this attribution and suggested the poet may have been Georg Friedrich Treitschke, who in 1814 prepared the final text of Beethoven's opera Fidelio. "The premiere performance seems to have been a rather troubled one; according to the composer's secretary, Anton Felix Schindler, it "simply fell apart," a result most likely attributable to insufficient rehearsal time. Because of a mistake in the execution of the piece, it was stopped half way through and restarted." Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Opus 31 No. 2 Kempff was born (1895 in Jüterbog, Brandenburg, Germany) in a family of distinguished church musicians. His father was his first teacher. He entered the Hochschule für Musik Berlin at age nine (deeply impressing the directors with his playing, improvisation and compositions) did furthur study in Potsdam, and finished up in Berlin 1916 also studying philosopy and music history. His first appearance as a soloist was with the Berlin Phil Orch in 1918, Beethovens G major piano concerto under Arthur Nikisch.....Scandinavian tours continued after the war, culminating in a award bestowed on him by King Gustav of Sweden. He was music director of Musikhochschule Stuttgart 1924-1929, and married piano pupil Helene Freiin Hiller in 1926. In 1927 took his first trip to Turkey and met with president Atatürk offering advice on appointments to Ankara college of music. Then taught at Potsdam 1931-1941 with Edwin Fischer and Walter Gieseking. Premiere of his second opera "family Gozzi" in 1934 to good notices. He composed many works for orchestra, piano, organ, chamber ensembles and songs. The tempo of the piano music matching perfectly the dancing moonlight on the waters surface. (Claro de Luna or Clair de Lune). This instrumental classical music is perfect music for relaxation. The lake where I filmed this very tranquil scene is called lough Gill, which is perfectly matched with the Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.
