A quick guitar lesson on how to play Def Leppard's Hysteria. I'm not a professional instructor, and this lesson is not exact. Here are some general guidelines to get the sound: -Keep the preamp (gain) low. -Lots of chorus -Maybe a bit of flanger also. -A bit of delay and a bit more reverb -If you have a compressor pedal (or effect on your amp) - use it! It will make your notes 'pop'. -Amp: Turn bass down, mids just under half way, treble up a bit. -Single coil pickups will give you much more transparent sound. This was the last 5 minutes of a 75 minute class - I actually taught real math for the first 70 minutes. And yes, I love teaching this class, and I try to keep it lively by doing little fun things like this once in a while. Software/Camera: I used Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, version 12.1 - the "picture-in-picture" feature for the special effects. I filmed it with a simple Panasonic PV-GS35 MiniDV camcorder. Idea/Time: I did this last semester as an April Fool's joke. New class, new year, I decided to try it again, with a few more twists. It took me about 45 minutes to film the video, maybe 2 hours to edit and refine it, then I practiced the interaction with the video a couple times. I thought it was time I tried to do a lesson. Although I'm not a guitar teacher, I feel it is my duty to pass on some of the things I have learned. Please have patience with my teaching style. I'll do my best to get the basic idea across. I spent a lot of years learning different styles of playing. The least I can do is try to give some of you guitar players a head start. I have been a Duane Allman follower since I first saw the Allman Brothers on August 17th, 1971. I was on vacation in Boston the summer I turned 16. My friends took me to the Boston Common for the concert of a lifetime. I was so inspired by seeing the ABB and Duane, I traded my acoustic for an electric as soon as I got home. Duane was in a class all his own. He played with so much heart and soul. Just yesterday I got a CD from the Boston Common show in the mail. It is the fifth release of some of the early shows with Duane. I really brought back a lot of great memories. It also inspired me to do this vid. This lesson is pretty general. It covers some of the basics of Duane's slide technique. I learned what I know of this style by ear over the years. Look for more lessons that go into more detail on specific songs.. + Informações
