Demo includes two guitars - a stock '68 Gibson ES-345 and a five year old Tele type guitar (with Fender American Standard pickups) made by Ron Thorn. This clip demos the sound of the classic Magnatone M10 amplifier. I've used a Les Paul and a Stratocaster to do the demos. There are no pedals or external effects being used. The reverb and vibrato effects are both from the amp itself. UPDATE - I had just received the amp when this was recorded and it had one shot power tube. This resulted in a very "unique" sound LOL and like ZERO clean headroom. This changed dramatically when I replaced the tube. I've subsequently recorded a few other demos. Demonstration of my new, small, stereo wet rig. Pardon my clams in the demo, it's about the sound, not the song or my playing. The guitar is a Thorn Master Artisan, #12. The dry amp is an old Magnatone 213 Troubadour (in a homemade 1x12 cab). The wet rig starts with an H&K Red box. Line out from there to a Boss SE-70. Stereo out from there to a Stewart PA100b stereo power amp. From there to two homemade ported, closed back 1x10 cabs with Eminence Lil Buddy speakers.. + Informações

This clip demos my old PANaramic 1220 - a 2x12 combo almost identical to the Magnatone 260. The cab I have it in is home made and is loaded with Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers. The guitar is about 10 years old, a DeArmond M77T--a fantastic guitar that was made in Korea until the early 2000s. The wet rig consists of a H&K Red Box (gets you a line level signal off your speaker output) that feeds into a Boss SE-70 effects unit. This is powered by a Stewart PA100b which feeds two home-made closed back, ported cabs with 10" Eminence speakers.. + Informações

This is a 79 Princeton Reverb that I modified in a number of ways. First, I have an Eminence Ragin Cajun speaker in there (huge improvement). I used Paul Cocrhane's simple phase inverter modification. I changed the bias on the first gain stage, lowering the value of the cathode bypass cap (decreases low end a bit). I tweaked the tremolo for more depth and slower speed. Added grid stoppers on the power tubes and replaced the worthless boost circuit with a bright cap that can be switched on/off from vol pot. Finally I added a foot-switchable and variable tone circuit bypass, knob is mounted in place of 2nd input in front.. + Informações

This clip demonstrates an old PANaramic 1210 amplifier which was no doubt built by Estey Electronics, who built Magnatones and related brands. This amp is unusual in that it features a solid-state rectifier and Jensen C12R speaker unlike most Magnatones of this style and vintage. Another in an apparently endless stream of amplifier demos. The Studio 10 is a little 1x8 amplifier made by Valco under the National brand in the late 60s. In this demo, I'm using two guitars - my T-caster made by Ron Thorn of Glendale California and a Gibson ES-137. I'm playing the T-caster with the 2nd and 3rd inputs jumpered for a little extra grindage on a rock n roll chestnut. The ES-137 is used on a mellow old standard by Hoagy Carmichael which some of you may remember. Guitars are plugged straight in. Enjoy.. + Informações
