My son's 8th grade basketball team has been playing together for the last 4-5 years. Great group of kids and well coached. Wish the coach would continue to coach more of our kids. Anyway this is their last year before they go into high school ball. They had 9 players this year (one more than their usually 8) But 2 weeks into the season one boy tears his ACL and is out. So they've been playing with 8 on Saturdays and 7 on Sundays. (one boy doesn't play on Sundays) This weekend's tournament they won both games on Saturday. Going into Sundays games they only had 5 players. One has strep throat and one is in a tennis tournament. So we play the whole game with 5 players. No subs and breaks come at timeouts. Against a very talented and classy team who have beaten us before. With about 4 sec. left in one of our players fouls out leaving us with 4 at the end of regulation. Game tied at 54. We go into a 2 min overtime. Our 4 against their 5. There are free throws and it goes back and forth by one point. We are tied at 57 with 8 seconds remaining when when another player fouls out. We are now down to 3 and their team goes to the line for two shots at the free throw line. First shot is missed. Second shot hits the rim but they knock it out of bounds so we get the ball back. Our 3 kids against 5. Game is tied with about 8 secs. My son inbounds the ball and then gets it back. He takes it down the court checking the clock.
