There on the cricket's singing stone, She spares the bogwood fire, And hums in sad sweet undertone The song of heart's desire * In Scottish Gaelic a "leannan-sidhe" is a Faery Lover. This type of Faery Lover often takes a person's love and then leaves. He or she goes back where they came from (Faery Land?) leaving the human pining for their lost love. The poor mortals in the tales of leannan sidhe often died of sorrow. "The leánan sídhe (fairy mistress) mentioned in the song is a malicious figure who frequently crops up in Gaelic love stories. One could call her the femme fatale of Gaelic folklore. She sought the love of men; if they refused, she became their slave, but if they consented, they became her slaves and could only escape by finding another to take their place. She fed off them so her lovers gradually wasted away - a common enough theme in Gaelic medieval poetry, which often saw love as a kind of sickness. Aoife Ní Fhearraigh (pronounced /?i?f?? n?i? ?a??i?/) is an Irish singer and composer, born in Gweedore, North West County Donegal. She performs Traditional Irish and New Age music, in the style of other musicians native of the Donegal area like Clannad, Moya Brennan, Enya Brennan and Altan.[1][2] Aoife Ni Fhearraigh has performed with such musicians as Phil Coulter, Paul Brady, and Brian Kennedy. Aoife Ní Fhearraigh has released three albums and has toured in Netherlands, Germany, France, England and Ireland. She also achieved international fame when her song "The Best Is Yet To Come" was featured in the PlayStation game Metal Gear Solid and in the GameCube remake Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Aoife married in 2007 and now resides in Banbridge, County Down. Ok, so this is the second part that I had to do for LshineBLight's Mep... and I chose Little Miss Muffet! Yes, I know it's not exactly a fairy tale but I just thought it's something that you (the viewers) haven't seen before + it was the first thing that popped into my head! :P Ok... for those who don't know the nursery rhyme: Little Miss Muffet Sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider, Who sat down beside her And frightened Miss Muffet away My plot is basically very simple: Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet about to enjoy her curds and whey. But little did she know that Mr Spider kept an eye yet she did not know why. So the spider surprised his butterfly one day but she tried to fly away, so Mr Spider knew what to do to keep his little pet at bay.... He grabbed her tight so she could not take flight and whispered his menacing plan while she tried to struggle and fight... Sadly, all this effort was in vane since she lived the rest of her life in pain, by Mr Spider's side she has now lost all of her glory, joy and pride. Hey, you gotta admit that this is pretty good considering it was written and typed after 3am in the morning! This tale is one of the saddest stories on Mull. At the foot of the 1000ft cliffs of Gribun stands Clach na Leannan, the Stone of the Courting Couple. The stone is just 50 yards inland from a road where it passes the first farm coming from Salen direction, with a windblown elder tree at the gable. This stretch of road on the south side of Lich na Keal can be extremey terrifying, with the overhanging cliffs on one side and a drop into the sea below. There are many occurancs of rock avalanches after heavy rain or a passing sheep dislodging a stone. In about the year 1700, in the autumn, a young man named John, a local shepherd was betrothed to Rona, daughter of a local blacksmith. The couple had been fortunate in obtaining a small but cosy cot- house that stood on a piece of flat land at the foot of the cliffs of Gribun. Their new home was situated opposite where the wedding was taking place. The wedding celebrations went on until dawn in the barn of an old farmhouse. A storm had been threatening all day and broke in the night, a great wind came roaring in from the sea accompanied by torrents if rain. As time went on, the neawly-weds slipped out unoriced and hurried over to their little home. With the noise of the storm, pipes and celebrations, no-one heard the dreadful sound in the night when a great outcrop split, and a huge section rolled down, coming to rest on and completely flattening the cot-house with the young couple inside. During the crime, Steve Reynolds, another innocent man is involved and killed in the escape. After a high-speed chase, the car crashes and Durling is knocked unconscious while the bandits get away. The police arrest Durling but refuse to believe that he wasn't one of the robbers. Durling escapes the police then later teams with Reynolds' sister in an attempt to prove his innocence. The trail leads to a small roadside diner where the two end up finding the gang hiding out in the building's basement. They go undercover, her as a waitress and Durling joins the gang.
