Historia: En el municipio Achaguas, cerca de la comunidad de Santa Lucía, fueron localizados los restos de una embarcación que se hundió, en las riveras del Río Apure a principios del siglo XX. Los restos encontrados, según los conocedores de la historia, corresponden al barco a vapor conocido como ¨El Masparro¨, el cual naufragó en el año 1914. Al respecto, Argenis Méndez Echenique, historiador del estado Apure, y actual Secretario de Cultura de la Gobernación, destacó el valor histórico de la nave. ¨El vapor que pertenecía a la Compañía Venezolana de Navegación, completaba la misión de transportar efectivos militares a Guasdualito para sofocar una rebelión en contra del Presidente Juan Vicente Gómez¨. Acotó que la embarcación al momento de naufragar contaba con 30 metros de largo y 30 toneladas de carga, las cuales nunca fueron recuperadas. ¨Luego no hubo ningún intento de rescatar los restos de la embarcación y con el tiempo esto se convirtió en una leyenda. Hasta el extremo que incluso se han escrito novelas y se han hecho cuentos, anécdotas y muchas cosas relacionadas con esto.
