Sep 2 2011 Lea's Concert at BYU De Jong Concert Hall "Once upon a time we all dreamed of becoming our favorite Disney Prince or Princess. Being a theatrical chap, I grew up dreaming of playing the role of Aladdin on stage, film, at the theme parks or wherever else I could call myself Prince Ali. Eventually I auditioned for the role at Disney's California Adventure and made final cuts two years in a row. Though giving it my best, I wasn't cast either time. Discouraged, I put the dream aside to pursue Acting across the country in New York City. Four years later on a serendipitous September evening my dream was about to resurface. While visiting my hometown of Provo Utah, I attended the solo concert of Broadway Superstar Lea Salonga, whose extensive resume includes recording the singing voices of Disney Princesses Jasmine and Mulan. Near the end of her concerts, Lea surprises her audience by inviting a random enthusiastic volunteer to take on the role of Aladdin and join her on stage to sing 'A Whole New World' ...that night SHE PICKED ME!! I dreamt for 20 years of playing Aladdin(also for many years dreamed of performing alongside Lea Salonga) and couldn't believe my dream was coming true! Overwhelmed, I tried my best at recalling the lyrics, styling and harmonies I had learned from my Disney auditions. It was a perfect night. THANK YOU for watching! MANILA, Philippines - When Lea Salonga came down from her second-floor dressing room in a Quezon City studio, the staff and other talents literally stopped preparing for the shoot and looked at her with amazement. The West End and Broadway star, and multi-awarded singer and film actress was in the house. Lea then approached Raffy Francisco, the director of the music video for Kanta Pilipinas' theme song, who gave her instructions on what she was to do in front of the camera. Direk Raffy gave his cue and after a few minutes, Lea started to sing and dance for almost four minutes. When the song ended, the silence was broken with a thundering applause. In one take, it was as if she performed for everyone inside the studio and not for the camera. It only proved one thing. No matter what project Lea is in, she always makes sure to deliver with dedication and perfection?a character of hers that has inspired many young and aspiring Filipino talents to be like her. Advertisement The Munich concert, A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein, will be held July 2 at the Klassik Am Odeonsplatz. The 9 PM performance will feature Barrowman and Salonga in a suite of songs from West Side Story with Barrowman singing the role of Tony and Salonga the role of Maria. The concert will also feature the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under the direction of Leonard Slatkin. John Barrowman recently reprised his role as Billy Crocker in the National Theatre's production of Anything Goes at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. He originally played the role opposite Elaine Paige in 1989. On Broadway, the actor starred in the Stephen Sondheim revue Putting It Together and also made a guest appearance in the New York company of Sunset Boulevard, repeating his London role as Joe Gillis. Barrowman's other London theatrical credits include Grease!, The Phantom of the Opera, The Fix, Miss Saigon and Beauty and the Beast. He can currently be seen as Captain Jack in the BBC series "Dr. Who" and recently filmed a small role in the upcoming screen adaptation of Mel Brooks' The Producers.
