This is a music video we made for the late and incredible, Junior Kimbrough. One that we at Little Ruby Pictures are most proud of having made. It was for the last record that Bob Palmer produced for Junior. When we were working with Iggy Pop on our independent, feature length film, Wayne County Ramblin', the video impressed upon him to ask Junior to open for him on the upcoming Iggy Pop tour. We were contracted by Fat Possum Records to make this video way back in 1993; we've been awaiting reimbursement for many a sad day and many a lonely night. Still, was an honor to have met and worked with such a great and talented man. Look for Otha Turner and RL Burnside among the patronage at Junior's Juke Joint. We also featured many of the remarkable paintings created by local artist Johnny Hughes, in the video, as well. The juke joint burned down shortly after Junior's passing, and we are sad for the loss of a kind and uniquely gifted musical legend in Mr. Junior Kimbrough. At 6:30am when we arrived, the CIRY crew had the 1206 idling inside the compound, and a few minutes later, they brought the 1209 to life. The 1206 sported a Leslie RS5T while the 1209 carried a Nathan M5 - two big horns for two little switchers. The crew waited for the BNSF superintendent and a three-man BNSF crew to arrive, so that they could ride along and become familiarized with the trackage that BNSF has not operated in 10 years. At 7:50, the two switchers pulled out of the compound for their last trip up and down the branch. First, the 1206 was cut off from the 1209. They used the 1206 to pick up a hopper for Kramer Cement which had been stored in a siding along Cermak. The 1206 ran solo across Cermak and into the narrow alleyway to reach the Kramer spur. After about 20 minutes of waiting around, the Kramer gate was opened and the drawbridges that block the tracks were raised. They pulled one covered hopper, then spotted the one they had picked up from the siding. Then they returned to the mainline, picked up the 1209, and continued west. The only other work they had going "up" the branch was Domino Sugar, where they picked up four more covered hoppers. Their 5-car train complete, the crew brought the short train up along the B&OCT to Western Avenue Yard. At Western, the 1206 and 1209 were uncoupled from the train, and ran down the southernmost yard track and pushed a cut of cars further down to make room for their five hoppers. A Day in the Life is a song by the English rock band The Beatles written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, based on an original idea by Lennon. It is the final track on the group's 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Since its original album release, "A Day in the Life" has been released as a B-side, and also on various compilation albums. It has been covered by other artists including The Fall, Bobby Darin, Sting, Neil Young, Jeff Beck, The Bee Gees, Mae and since 2008, by Paul McCartney in his live performances. A sci fi movie directed by Duncan Jones depicts a story of a lonely Moon worker: Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) contracted to work for three years on a Moon base. Two weeks before his trip back home he discovers someone else on the Moon. Sam Bell starts to lose his mind as he cannot understand any of this. I highly recommend watching this movie, it's a sci-fi piece which is something we've been waiting for a long time. A fascinating story of a lonely worker cut off from his family for 3 years just to support them. His final days on the Moon mining base turn into a maelstrom of confusion and questioning himself as he discovers someone who looks exactly like him.Clint Mansell's music score represents the movie beautifully. If you're looking for a movie which will blind you with CGI, you're in the wrong place.
