Personal Best 2:04.091 I went out with the goal of being smooth, which is hard to do when the "Red Mist" takes hold as it has always done before. Seat time at any track helps to get things settled down. It was also the last run of the weekend and I had done a 2:05 the session before and figured I was not going to set a fast lap so I was able to let myself slow down and clear the mist. It helped that I took a track walk the night before and had just taken a ride with my instructor Stuart who showed me what he was telling me in the previous sessions. Having no one around helped clear the mist as well. You will note I started taking a higher line on the entry to 1 which let the car get closer to straight line braking and set me up better for 2. When I used the low line I was always braking and turning at the same time which never let the car settle and wore out the back tire. Data aquisisition showed uneven braking G's since I did not know where on the friction circle I was. Also I started leaving it in 4th gear out of 3 which reduces shifting and since I carried more speed into 4. Thanks to my bud Terry for suggesting that. I was still downshifting into 6 but perhaps with enough speed I can leave it in 4th and knock off a few more tenths. During the race at Pocono raceway in PA, on the last lap (lap 204) Kahne gets knocked loose and goes into the wall. I don't have the live footage because my DVR wouldn't let me rewind all the way. Also included is the last-half of the interview with winner Denny Hamlin (this was also cut out because of my DVR.) The crash they talk about is when Hamlin does his victory burnouts and looses control, crashing into the wall.
