Sombre dimanche.. + Informações |

Edith Piaf L'Etranger French & English subtitles 3.50 min. | 4.8076925 avaliação | 6778 exibições Edith always sang her songs for the man she was in love with at the time. In 1936 when she heard Annette Lajon sing L'Etranger, Edith told Simone Berteaut, "Momone, I've got to have that song,..Listen to it, it's Mermoz. That's what I'd like to have happen with him." The man was french avaiator Jean Mermoz. The year was 1936. Edith stole the song. Annette Lajon slapped her in the lavatory for doing this, and said "If she didn't have talent, I would have slapped her onstage." ("Piaf" Simone Berteaut- translated by June Guicharnaud) The songs is about a young woman , most likely a street walker, who falls in love with a sailor and hopes he would free her from her unhappy life. Instead, he leaves her and his body is later found in the sea. Aviator Jean Mermoz disappeared at sea in December of 1936. ( Piaf must have some kind of magic touch.) The credits for this song read, "Juel, Monnot, Malleron." It is generally recognized as her first hit song with Marguerite Monnot, with whom Piaf would have a life-long collaboration. American audiences know her as the author of the Broadway hit show, "Irma La Douce." Thanks once again to philipchek of Youtube and Paris for his help with this translation.. + Informações |

"Les Fleurs sont des mots d'amour" ... Pierre Pagliano & son orchestre (1942) 3.75 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 554 exibições Please activate the HD function(1080p/720p) before watching the video or watch it with a larger type player (in 480p). "Les fleurs sont des mots d'amour" (Lit. Flowers are words of love) was a very popular tango in France in 1942. It was sung by French cinema's golden girl Danielle Darrieux in "La Fausse Maîtresse" (The fake mistress) - the last movie she made for German owned Continental-Films. "La Fausse Maîtresse" was based on story by Honoré de Balzac and saw Darrieux working in a circuas a trapeze artist and singer. Darrieux' first Continental movie was "Le Premier Rendez-vous" which was a smash hit. Its title songs remains a classic to this day. "Les Fleurs sont des mots d'amour" was recorded by Danielle Darrieux for Polydor, by Marie-José on Odeon and Annette Lajon on Pathé. The orchestra of Pierre Pagliano accompanied Lajon but in an arrangement that is very different from his solo recording. The story of Continental-Films is quite fascinating... France had a very important movie industry. After France's defeat in the Second World War Germany allowed French production to resume as it knew full well there was a need for distraction and the French had a large appetite for movies which could not be satisfied by the films present in the archives. So movie production was quickly resumed. The scripts had to be approved by censors and any person of jewish origin or politically unreliable was to be excluced from the film making process. Goebbels - who was not only the .... + Informações |

Forgotten Singers (2) "Mon Coeur part en Voyage" (Bambina Innamorata)...Marcel Véran (1939) 4.17 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 257 exibições Please activate the HD function(1080p/720p) before watching the video or watch it with a larger type player (in 480p) What to say about Marcel Véran? Quite frankly nothing.... I haven't been able to dig up any information on this singer except that he recorded with several orchestras as refrain singer and made some recordings on his own as well... Any information would be more than welcome... "Mon Coeur part en Voyage" is the very different French version of "Bambina Innamorata" (Baby in love)- a very succesful Italian song composed in 1934 which has become a classic.... Whereas "Bambina Innamorata" is a romantic love song, "Mon Coeur part en Voyage" is the opposite as it tells the story of a love that has ended and the singer - or rather his heart - embarks on a voyage in order to forget his lost love.... I found this record in Amsterdam at "De Weergever" -the society of collectors of 78rpm records (as well as historic recording/playback equipment) in the Netherlands. As I did not know the singer nor the Italian original (not mentioned on the label) I was intrigued by its romantic title... I am glad I brought this record home... For those interested in the collector's society (in Dutch only): www.de-weergever.nl A beautiful version from 1934 by the popular Italian singer Luciana Dolliver (1910-82) can be found here : www.youtube.com The video follows the lyrics of the song with images of trains as well as the original sheet music of "Mon Coeur part en Voyage" which was a .... + Informações |

She debuted in a cabaret Le Shéhérazade where her warm and melodic contralto immediately drew a great attention on her. She was offered a series of recordings of popular French and international hits for Pathe and accompanied by famous Wal-Berg Orchestra-- she issued a few excellent renditions (Bei mir bist du schoen www.youtube.com La chapelle au clair de lune www.youtube.com Night and Day, C'est la barque du rêve). The peak of her career was, however, during German occupation of France, in years 1940-44. It's when she recorded for Disque Gramophone (French His Master's Voice) her greatest evergreens: L'Arc en Ciel www.youtube.com (French version of Judy Garland's Over The Rainbow), Begin the Beguine www.youtube.com Je suis seule ce soir www.youtube.com Votre Amour guide mon Coeur www.youtube.com As "la grande vedette" she did not hesitate to perform for crowds of her French and German fans in greatest concert halls of Paris (Concert Pacra in 1941) or in the night clubs and cabarets frequented by the Nazi elite. Her willfull collaboration with the German "Kulturkampf " carriers received a reward in numerous concerts she had a chance to present on Radio-Paris, controlled by the Germans. After 1945, her behavior duiring these years has been remembered by her audience and in .... + Informações |

Ich spür in mir / Mazurka - Robert Gaden mit seinem Tanzorchester & Pola Negri (1935) 2.77 min. | 4.6363635 avaliação | 2749 exibições Robert Gaden's elegant rendition of Pola Negri's big hit "Ich spür in mir" (English version "Stay close to me") from her comeback movie "Mazurka", directed by Willy Forst. Pola Negri had become a star in German silent pictures, she was especially good in the movies directed by Ernst Lubitsch. Soon she followed him to Hollywood where she became an exotic and vampish leading lady. With the arrival of sound her Hollywood career faltered as her accent was considered too heavy for American audiences. She made a sound picture in the USA in 1932, "A woman commands" in which she sang the standard "Paradise" Pola returned to Europe where she started a succesful singing career and appeared in the French movie "Fanatisme". She was then asked to star in Willi Forst's melodrama "Mazurka", which was an enormous succes throughout Europe. Hollywood was interested and bought the film rights but Pola's hopes of returning to Hollywood were soon dashed as Kay Francis was signed to star in the American version called "Confession". Pola Negri filmed and recorded in Germany until 1938 (she lived in France between filming) and starred in "Moskau-Shanghai", "Tango Notturno", "Madame Bovary", "Die fromme Lüge" and "Die Nacht der Entscheidung".... In 1939 she returned to the USA but sadly appeard in only 2 more productions : "Hi diddle diddle",(1943) and "The Moonspinners" (1964). She died in Texas in 1987. About the record : This is a repost. This was one of the first tracks I digitalized, however .... + Informações |
