A beautiful song written by Lady Caroline Nairn in the 1798 (ish) to comfort some friends whose daughter had died. "Land o' The Leal" literally means Land of The Loyal. ie Heaven. Alternately knows as 'Bonny Charlie's Now Awa' the first three and the last verse of this song were written by Carolina Oliphant, Lady Nairne (1766 - 1845) and pertain to the defeated Bonny Prince Charlie, The Young Pretender as history has dubbed him after the battle of Culloden. He fled Scotland (see the Skye Boat Song) to wander round Europe vainly searching for men to back his lost cause. This is yet another song I had intended to upload quite some time ago, but did not get round to until today. I searched a number of sites for the lyrics of this song but I am sure that they must all have copied from the same source and I have a feeling that a typographic error was made in the original. In the verse that begins 'Mony a soger....' the next word is 'gaught' which is what I have sung, but I think it should probably have been 'faught' (fought).. + Informações
