Kym Mazelle (born Kimberley Grigsby, 1960 in Gary, Indiana) is an American dance-pop, Hi-NRG, soul, and house singer. She was brought up and lived on the same street as the Jackson family and knew Michael Jackson's mother and uncle. Mazelle's career started in Chicago working with the record producer Marshall Jefferson on the 1987 release "Taste My Love" on the Police Records label. In 1988 she released the single "Useless (I Don't Need You Now)" which became a hit on the club charts but stalled at #53 on the UK Singles Charts. It was her next release that saw her achieve success, "Wait," a duet with Robert Howard from the Blow Monkeys in 1989 managed to peak at #7 on the UK Singles Chart. Her next solo single saw Kym hit The Top Thirty on the UK Singles Chart, "Got To Get You Back" was released on the back of her success with "Wait" but only managed to peak at #29 despite touring with Ten City and gaining exposure on programmes such as The Chart Show and Top Of The Pops. Her debut album Crazy was released in the UK in conjunction with the single "Love Strain" but both stalled in the charts with "Crazy" not even entering the UK Top 75 Album Charts and "Love Strain" missing the UK Top 40 Singles Chart. Her next release, "Was That All It Was", returned Kym to the UK Top 40 Singles Chart. This was a cover of the Jean Carne Classic and to this day is much sought after and very rarely appears on any compilations but is classed as a dance classic.
