This is one of two official Catholic hymns adopted from the 20th century. I think it is originally Maronite due to the music and usage in church. This Good Friday hymn is sung by the Lebanese singer Fairuz. I have set this song to the Fourteen Stations of the Cross. At around 5:53 pm on August 26, 1991, Mary T. Wojtyla, 41, of Chicago, was walking with her lawyer across the tracks at the Fairview Avenue grade crossing in Downers Grove, directly in front of a westbound train that was stopped at the Metra station. Apparently distracted by ongoing divorce proceedings, she crossed the center track and was struck by westbound Burlington Northern EMD E9 locomotive 9912 pulling a "Racetrack" express train, estimated to be traveling at 60 miles per hour (97 km/h). Wojtyla was killed instantly; her lawyer saw the oncoming train and was not struck. The accident delayed between 12000 and 15000 commuters on the Burlington Northern line for more than an hour. Trains were further delayed when Downers Grove police ordered the engineer to back up the train in order to re-enact the incident. According to an account in the Downers Grove Reporter, "the engineer was so seriously affected by the re-enactment, where he had to pass by the dead body still on the tracks, he was unable to continue and had to be relieved of his duties." A railfan captured Wojtyla being struck by the train. He was apparently filming at the station to film the last day of one the EMD E9 locomotives. The railfan was traumatised by the incident as Mary's body flew across and knocked the railfan and his camcorder (which was on a tripod) to the ground. UPDATES: (looooonnnggggg) I was at Rebecca Farm all last week...competition wise it was a disaster and absolutely the worst week of the year so far. But, if I pretend I never even tried to compete it was honestly the best week of my life. Seriously. I worked for Hawley Bennett all week and it was a TON of work but so much fun! I tacked up horses (she was riding FIVE, 2 3*, 1 1*, and 2 Prelim. Crazy), walked, cleaned stalls, groomed, watered, helped out in the vet box after cross country (I also cooled out a friend who fell off's horse after the 3*), iced, iced more....iced more...haha. It was fun :) I wish it never had to end. Competition wise....oh my it was bad. So we had an amazing dressage warm up with Hawley. Like, he had honestly never gone that well for me! I don't know what it was that made him go so well that Hawley said to me but....WOW. It was amazing. Hawley said we would easily have been low 30s-high 20s. I've never gotten anything in the 20s on any horse.
