Filleting these fish is easy and gets a great big fillet with no bones. Spanish mackerel are one great sportsfish, grow to big sizes, up to 40 kilos or more, and great eating as well. The fish referred to in this video is called a Spanish Mackerel in Australia, or very similar to the King Mackerel in America. This filleting video is also relevant for your smaller Mackerel Species, in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef we get school, spotty, Grey, and shark mackerel just to name a few. This footage was taken on a recent three day fishing charter on Mako, a Steber 41, and did we catch some fish. We caught 8 spanish Mackerel in 45 minutes and left them biting as we were on our way to the Great Barrier Reef. The Marine Fisheries thinks there is only small red snapper but they are wrong again here is why . No one can really know for sure what is in the oceans The Marine Fisheries goes by what the commercial fishermen bring to the dock and for the past few years the economy has been so bad the fish house has us trying to only bring in the smaller fish like red snapper they want them under 4lb. and king mackerel under 15 lb and the larger fish we do bring in is worth less money. The sad thing we try to tell the ones who are doing so call research on the snapper by taking the ear bone out of snapper. But it does not matter they do not ever ask us any questions and do not seem to care what we have to say.Here we are catching red snapper in about 150 foot of water. They are all over even far away from any rigs or reefs we only troll down about 28foot and the snapper are thick we can see them on the bottom machine. I have got to get me a under water camera. The so callconservation groups like the cca have made stopping the commercial fishing in to a big money making business with the donations from the public that does not know what is really going on and from the grovernment grants for their bad data on the fish.Please do not believe all their lies. www.reefari.com Heres some great fishing and trolling tips video for Spanish or King Mackerel. Always troll the deepwater points and reef ledges, as this is where mackerel will hold feeding for baitfish. No point trolling a desert, so work good deep ledges, points, and rocks which hold fish. This was an area I rarely fish or troll, but sticking to the above rule, we managed to find three nice Spanish Mackerel within an hour and topped the esky off nicely after catching a good feed of reef fish. Made for another top day out fishing. It pays to vary things up and adds another dimension to a great day out on the water. I'll normally work an area for half an hour and if no luck move on. Keep an eye on the tides as certain areas will fish better on a certain tide. Just because no strikes, doesn't mean there are no fish there. I'll troll the same area again, but on the way back to port, maybe 6 hours later and a tide change can make all the difference. Keep trying and trolling different rigs, I like to troll a mix of lures and baits, with wogs working really well around the islands. These are a great swimming rig with gar(ballyhoo), and very quick and easy to rig. Often if the mackerel are fussy and won't hit lures, they'll rig a swimming gar or wolf herring. You gotta love wogs and well worth giving a troll. www.reefari.com Spanish Mackerel Shootout 2009 was held again by Mackay Game Fishing Club in Mackay, with the obvious goal of catching Spanish Mackerel. Reefari was a major sponsor and didn't need much of an excuse to go fishing. Some great fish were caught over the weekend. We tried hard, did some huge miles, tried all the top spots, but with some Westerly in the wind, the spanish mackerel fishing was shut down with most fish coming from the Whitsundays or south at Hay Point. We have 4 good hits, and missed every one. That's fishing and you don't win them all. Had the gun bait, Wolf herring, Gar and some great lures. Anyhow still was a top weekend with the boys and will do it all again next year. Best Spanish Mackerel was 29 Kilo's caught by Mick Rethus.
