Cold Missouri Waters by James Keelaghan 4.10 min. | 4.987805 avaliação | 18294 exibições A beautifully written song from a confessional point of view about a terrible fire that broke out in Mann Gulch, North Montana in 1949. The subject in the song, a guy named Dodge, survived the fire only to die a few years later from Hodgkin's Disease. I learned this version from the amazing Richard Shindell.. + Informações |

James Keelaghan sings on while replacing a string 2.28 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 949 exibições James Keelaghan plays The Merry Muse in Canberra (Turner Bowlo) with Hugh McMillan plus support Kim Churchill and walk-up artist Amanda Kay. During the intro to a song, James broke a string but continued on with vox while Hugh provided bass, and local mando-player/singer/volly Julie Barnes ripped up the side of stage with James's bag of replacement strings. James continued on and replaced the string, allowing him to kick in with the geet for the last part of the song. A great bit of unplanned vaudeville on a fabulous night of folk. Big crowd, four awesome performers and lots new fans for The Merry Muse, Monaro Folk Society and partners Artsound FM 92.7. Crappy sound quality by Blackberry Inc. www.merrymuse.org.au http www.artsound.com.au and of course with the vision www.myspace.com. + Informações |

322. Cold Missouri Waters (James Keelaghan) 5.80 min. | 4.5 avaliação | 7155 exibições This song, by Canadian singer-songwriter, James Keelaghan, is about a disastrous fire that occured in Mann Gulch, Montana in 1949. Fourteen firefighters and a forest ranger jumped into what was thought to be an easy fire to put out. Unexpectedly, the fire surrounded them. Whenthe crew chief, Robert Wagner Dodge, realized the danger they were in, he started an escape fire and ordered the men to lie down in the burnt area. According to Dodge, he had not heard of this technique before, and had just got a sudden inspiration that this would work, though it was well-known to the plains Indians, and had been included in nineteenth century fictional stories. Unfortunately the message did not get to the crew. Whether they didn't hear him, didn't understand his instructions or didn't believe it would work, they chose to climb the ridge of Mann Gulf, knowing that fires spread more slowly on the ridges. Dodge later claimed that he heard someone say, "The hell with that; I'm getting out of here". All but two were killed - Dodge himself and a new recruit. He died five years later of Hodgkins disease. The story of the song is told from the point of view of Dodge, on his death bed. As crew chief, he was considered responsible for the men's death, but here he gives his own version of what happened. This song was requested by Whummadug.. + Informações |

James Keelaghan Live at The Sweet Beaver Suite 5.77 min. | 0 avaliação | 226 exibições McConvilles by James Keelaghan www.sweetbeaver.com www.keelaghan.com One of Canada's finest songwriters, James Keelaghan is both a national treasure and one of the most widely traveled male folksingers on the planet. He's also fiercely intelligent and cuts an imposing figure; fortunately, for a guy who looks for all the world like he could just reach out and twist your head off as easy as opening a beer, he's about as sweet and goofy as they come. That said, he writes serious songs with a sense of history, and sings them in a deep, dark and sonorous voice; House of Cards, his 11th CD, is a fine example of his work. After Memphis, he'll head back to upstate New York for a series of dates; yet another Australian tour is in the works.. + Informações |
