Karen Dalton - Something On Your Mind 3.35 min. | 4.978022 avaliação | 68539 exibições From the album In My Own Time Yesterday any way you made it was just fine, So you turned your days into night-time, Didnt you know, you cant make it without ever even trying? And somethings on your mind, isnt it Let these times show you that youre breaking up the lines, Leaving all your dreams too far behind, Didnt you see, you cant make it without ever even trying? And somethings on your mind. Maybe another day youll want to feel another way, you cant stop crying, You havent got a thing to say, you feel you want to run away Theres no use trying, anyway. Ive seen the writing on the wall, Who cannot maintain will always fall, Well, you know, you cant make it without ever even trying. And somethings on your mind, isnt it Tell the truth now, isnt it And somethings on your mind, isnt it. + Informações |

Karen Dalton : Katie Cruel 2.52 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 15434 exibições Karen Dalton. Cherokee heritage, born 1937 in Enid, Oklahoma. A singer whose voice had rust in it before it ever found silver. She played guitar, banjo, gigged at the Cafe Wha? with Fred Neil, Bob Dylan. Someone said she was folk music's answer to Billie Holiday. Might have been Dylan, in fact. Her early albums were reissued in 2006. "Katie Cruel" comes from "In My Own Time". Karen Dalton is said to be the subject of the song "Katie's Been Gone" on the album "The Basement Tapes" by The Band and Bob Dylan. Karen struggled with drugs and alcohol for many years. It has been widely reported that she died in 1993 on the streets of New York City after an eight-year battle with AIDS, but a recent article in Uncut magazine confirmed that Dalton was actually being cared for by the guitarist Peter Walker in upstate New York during her last months. A couple other albums have come out since Karen's death in 1993. Some of us loved her music long ago and have been listening ever since. www.myspace.com Note: If anyone objects to this video due to copyright infringement, please make contact and it will be removed.. + Informações |

SAME OLD MAN (1971) by Karen Dalton 2.85 min. | 4.9703703 avaliação | 26329 exibições 'Same Old Man' appears to be a variation of one of my favourite songs, 'Old Man At The Mill', done by various people such as Ian Matthews, the Dillards and Doc Watson. This is the slowest version, but I like it too, particularly Karen Dalton's unusual voice (some raise similarities with Billie Holiday's). A cult singer, 12-string guitarist, and banjo player of the New York 1960s folk revival, Karen Dalton is not widely known, despite counting the likes of Bob Dylan and Fred Neil among her acquaintances (see photo of them in the slideshow). She only recorded a few albums and her voice was not what you would call mainstream. The Band's "Katie's Been Gone," included on The Basement Tapes, is rumoured to be about Dalton. Her albums are available at places such as Amazon. I have put together a slideshow video for this song. Comments and ratings are welcome.. + Informações |

Karen Dalton - Katie Cruel 2.35 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3245 exibições Karen Dalton - Katie Cruel Katie Cruel is a traditional American folksong, likely of Scottish origin. As a traditional song, it has been recorded by many performers, but the best known recording of the song is by Karen Dalton on the album In My Own Time. The American version of the song is said to date to the Revolutionary War period., the full lyrics are: When I first came to town, They called me the roving jewel; Now they've changed their tune, They call me Katy Cruel, Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little lioday. Chorus Oh that I was where I would be, Then I would be where I am not, Here I am where I must be, Go where I would, I can not, Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little lioday. When I first came to town, They brought me the bottles plenty; Now they've changed their tune, They bring me the bottles empty, Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little lioday. Chorus I know who I love, And I know who does love me; I know where I'm going, And I know who's going with me, Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little lioday. Chorus Through the woods I go, And through the bogs and mire, Straightway down the road, And to my heart's desire, Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little lioday. Chorus Eyes as bright as coal, Lips as bright as cherry, and 'tis her delight To make the young girls merry, Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little lioday. Chorus When I first came to town They called me the roving jewel Now they've changed their tune They call me Katy Cruel Oh, diddle, lully day, Oh, de little .... + Informações |

Karen Dalton Tribute 3.42 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 14170 exibições Here is a wondeful performance by the great singer Karen Dalton, too young disapperaed, long underrated but recently rediscovered. Karen Dalton (born in Enid, Oklahoma, of Cherokee and Irish origin, 1938 - 1993) was an American folk singer and banjo player associated with the early 1960's Greenwich Village folk scene, particularly with Fred Neil and the Holy Modal Rounders as well as Bob Dylan. Her bluesy, world-weary voice is often compared to that of iconic jazz singer Billie Holiday. She sang blues, folk, country, pop, Motown - making over each song in her own style. She played the twelve string Gibson guitar and a long neck banjo. Her second album, "In My Own Time" (1971), was recorded at Bearsville studios, produced by Bob Dylan's former bass player Harvey Brooks, with liner notes by Fred Neil, originally released on Michael Lang's (Woodstock promoter) label, Just Sunshine. The cover photos were taken by Elliot Landy, and piano player Richard Bell guested on the album. Less common is her first album for Capitol, "It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best" (1969), re-released by Koch Records in 1996. Known as "the folk singer's answer to Billie Holiday" and "Sweet Mother KD", it is said that the Richard Manuel song "Katie's Been Gone", from The Band's The Basement Tapes, was written about her. Both Dalton's albums were re-released in November 2006. Enjoy Karen Dalton's style!. + Informações |
