Junior Kimbrough "Sad Days, Lonely Nights" 4.40 min. | 4.9500713 avaliação | 244577 exibições This is a music video we made for the late and incredible, Junior Kimbrough. One that we at Little Ruby Pictures are most proud of having made. It was for the last record that Bob Palmer produced for Junior. When we were working with Iggy Pop on our independent, feature length film, Wayne County Ramblin', the video impressed upon him to ask Junior to open for him on the upcoming Iggy Pop tour. We were contracted by Fat Possum Records to make this video way back in 1993; we've been awaiting reimbursement for many a sad day and many a lonely night. Still, was an honor to have met and worked with such a great and talented man. Look for Otha Turner and RL Burnside among the patronage at Junior's Juke Joint. We also featured many of the remarkable paintings created by local artist Johnny Hughes, in the video, as well. The juke joint burned down shortly after Junior's passing, and we are sad for the loss of a kind and uniquely gifted musical legend in Mr. Junior Kimbrough. Director; Dan Rose, Producer; Van Anderson, Cinematographer; Keith Blankenship; Lighting & stills; Tana Dubbe, Editor; Terrence Murphy Go to www.waynecountyramblin.com for more information on our completed feature length project, if so inclined.. + Informações |

Junior Kimbrough-"Meet Me in the City" 6.87 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 491 exibições David "Junior" Kimbrough (July 28, 1930 ? January 17, 1998) was a blues musician from North Mississippi. His best known work included "Keep Your Hands Off Her" and "All Night Long". Music journalist Tony Russell stated "his raw, repetitive style suggests an archaic forebear of John Lee Hooker, a character his music shares with that of fellow North Mississippian RL Burnside". Junior Kimbrough was born in Hudsonville, Mississippi, and lived in the North Mississippi Hill Country near Holly Springs. He recorded for the Fat Possum Records label. He was a long-time associate of labelmate RL Burnside, and the Burnside and Kimbrough families often collaborated on musical projects. This relationship continues today. Rockabilly musician and friend Charlie Feathers called Kimbrough "the beginning and end of all music." This is written on Kimbrough's tombstone outside his family's church, the Kimbrough Family Church, in Holly Springs. Beginning around 1992, Kimbrough operated a juke joint known as "Junior's Place" in Chulahoma, Mississippi, which attracted visitors from around the world, including members of U2, Keith Richards, and Iggy Pop. Kimbrough's sons, musicians Kinney and David Malone Kimbrough, kept it open following his death, until it burned to the ground on April 6, 2000. Junior Kimbrough died of a heart attack in 1998 in Holly Springs following a stroke, at the age of 67.. + Informações |

Junior Kimbrough - Feels So Bad.wmv 2.20 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1846 exibições Recorded in Memphis, TN 1966. Guitarist and singer David 'Junior' Kimbrough (1930-1998) was one of the deepest of the deep bluesmen, like his colleague RL Burnside he came from the hill country of Mississippi. Stark music with deep primal rhythms and drones, his music is very powerful and hypnotic. Kimbrough ran a juke joint that was the focal point of the local blues scene and was prominently featured in Robert Palmer's documentary Deep Blues and in the founding of the influential Fat Possum record label. 'See, I have a different type of music from other peoples. They playing the other kind of blues, and I'm playing cotton-patch blues.... Ain't nobody now can play the blues that I play.' ~ Junior Kimbrough In 1966 Junior Kimbrough traveled to Memphis from his home in North Mississippi and recorded a short EP for noted rhythn & blues and gospel producer and owner of the Goldwax record label, Quinton Claunch. Junior Kimbrough recorded one session in one afternoon at American Studios. Claunch declined to release the recordings, deeming them too country. Forty some years later, Bruce Watson of Big Legal Mess Records approached Claunch to buy the original master tapes and the rights to release the recordings made that day. Some of the standard Kimbrough tunes that he would play for the rest of his career are here like the very potent 'Done Got Old' which is an unflinching look at age over a primal beat and slashing guitar. 'Meet Me In the City' is emotional and stark in .... + Informações |
